LED Headlight Bulbs in 987.2 Error Codes - Help Needed

I’ve recently installed LED dip and main beam bulbs into my 987.2 Boxster and am getting error messages saying check left and right main beam bulbs. I realise this is due to the much lower power taken by the LEDs and the conventional fix is to add load resistors.
Take one step back to the bulb purchase. I first bought dip beam LEDs from HIDS Direct, and they are perfect, very bright, great colour and totally error free.
Unfortunately HIDS Direct couldn’t supply main beam LEDs small enough to manipulate into the ridiculously small and awkward access to the main beams. The only ones I could find of the same overall dimension were on Ebay and even they were a struggle to install. Disappointingly they aren’t nearly bright enough and worst of all give dash errors.
I have purchased 100W resistors and even though they are quite small I can’t find anywhere to fit them and still get the headlight units back into the wing!
can anyone help me find better brighter LEDs that don’t give error messages or failing that tell me how and where to fit suitable load resistors and what wattage they need to be.
Thanks in anticipation.

I have LED dipped and main beam bulbs in my 987.1

Dipped are Philips X-treme Ultinon gen2 LED H7

Main beams are PIAA Hyper Arros LED H8/H11/H9/H16 (its H9 bulbs in the 987.1)

Bulbs from PowerBulbs.com. It was really difficult to find the main beam bulbs

Neither cause any problems. I bought a Philips Canbus adapter in case of issues but returned it as it wasn't needed. No resistors used, simple plug and play.

I've tried HID bulbs and brighter Halogen bulbs but the LEDs beat them hands down

Thanks Richard, I will look into the main beam bulbs you are using, however I used to have a 987.1 and put LEDs into that car without any issues or error messages. I think the headlight enclosures are subtly different and access to the main beam bulb on the dot 1 car is much better than on the dot 2.

hopefully the PIAA Hyper Arros bulbs are small and will fit the dot 2.

Cheers, Paul

I'm interested to see if Richards suggestion works on a Gen 2 car, can you update this thread once you have tried them Paul?

Hi John, I can tell you that the LED bulbs Richard has fitted to his 987.1 will NOT fit a 987.2. A quick look at the power bulbs website shows the PIAA Hyper Arros units are much longer that the original halogens and won‘t fit.

Because of the small opening in the headlamp and the need to turn the bulb through 90degrees to get it into the reflector, any bulb needs to be no bigger than the original halogen which is 61.72mm.

The ones I got off EBay are exactly that size and only just fit. The downside with them is the brightness is inadequate and of course the error messages.

If anyone knows of brighter units which are no bigger, or have successfully fitted load resistors please let me know how you did it.

Thanks, Paul

As above, Philips Ultinon Pro 9100 for the dipped beam and the latest Novsight (N60 series) for the high beam that are very bright. The Novsight give errors for the low beam but only when cold, i did try them and they were amazing.

This is for a 987.1
