LED interior bulb replacement

Has anyone replaced any interior or boot bulbs with LED types on 986 Boxsters. After 14 years my first bulb has gone in the rear boot so thinking of putting in better brighter ones. The cabin ones are not that bright either
Thanks
Mo

Hi Mo,

I am currently running LED's in both the front and rear boots and can report that they work well and are definitely a good upgrade. I originally switched all the interior bulbs as well, but recently swapped the door and overhead bulbs back to standard as I found the LED's were too cold and clinical and spoilt the warm and welcoming feel of the interior. I left the glove box as LED.

I have also replaced my sidelights and number plate lights with LED as they match my Litronic headlights better. I read somewhere that, as a general rule, LED's look better on the exterior of the car and standard bulbs better on the interior and I think I would generally agree with this.

Thanks Andy
Have seen different types of coloured LED's, 4000K (rare for automotive LED), 6000K and 6700 (Blue White). Might be that 4000K is better for interior as you say. But most seem to be 6000K (K = Kelvin)
Might try 6000K 200 Lumen in boot first (239 LED). Halfords didn't have that one in stock, when I went in yesterday.
Cheers
Mo

Be aware that 4000K is still a lot colder in colour than and old filament bulb, it'll still look quite "blue" compared with normal.

I agree with Andy that for interior bulbs the filament temerature is "nicer" but as for trunk/frunk the brighter the better.

Yes I agree with you there. In home I like ordinary bulbs in sitting room etc and only use Halogen etc in Bathroom or Kitchen.
Got a 265 Bulb in a different Halfords today. Didn't really know what type it was until I could physically see one. They don't do LED in that size anyway

Thanks
Mo

I have found the same Mo - LED's in the lounge are just not nice. They do not promote relaxation and comfort. LED's are perfect for 'functional' rooms like the kitchen and bathroom (functional... hehe!) and this translates to cars as well. The interior should be a warm and welcoming place.
The 'warm white' LED's are not bad, but still not as good as the standard filament bulbs in my opinion. Especially in the quality of the fading when they come on and go out....

There is a lot of advance in led bulb technology. For living rooms the Philips Hue bulbs, whilst expensive, are great. I've also fitted a large number of Luceco 5W LED 4000k GU10 bulbs in the kitchen and garage and can recommend them too.

Might try some led bulbs in the cars. Where is the best source? Are Halfords not expensive?

Hi Andy
What was the LED bulb number that you fitted to the luggage compartments. 239's, 264's or 265's?
Cheers Mo

From my research you need:
3 of 43 mm Festoon LED
4 of 194 Canbus LED
3 of 194 Flat LED.
Can anyone confirm or add more detail ?
