leda suspension

I just lowered my 944 on springs and standard shocks.

It has dropped so the tyre is just at the arch level at the front. Is there any danger of ripping the arches off while cornering?

i hear leda shocks are a good upgrade, are they pricey and wot options are available for a 944s?

Thanks
Jamie

Leda supply most of the 944's that are currently racing in the UK.

They are as good as any that produce high performance shocks/suspension.

The biggest factor in deciding what to get will be your specific application; track days fast road etc.

If you want some basic input before you go to Leda, I'll be happy to help you.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Biggest risk is breaking the ball joint out of the suspension arm.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In terms of Leda being good, it depends who you talk to. One occasional forum poster has a set for sale after they never fitted properly and one rear broke. Let's just say at one point I was going to buy Leda and then I didn't and I'm glad.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

And another forum regular didn't go quite so radical and is quite happy so far. I stayed with non coil over rears and so far haven't had any problems. They were perhaps a little soft, I set them about half way and expected them to be too stiff for the road, in fact they were not bad at at all (so I am unlikely to use the first 11 clicks in the 24 range). I set them to full stiff for a trackday and then drove on the road for six months and whilst occasionally painfull it wasn't so bad I was in any hurry to set them back. When I did they still felt stiff enough. I know Fen is Very happy with his KW's but I believe they work out at least 50% more expensive. The other appeal of leda's is they are relatively cheap to get rebuilt.
The only negative I have had is the way the front dust covers fit, it is wrong and they have fallen apart, I have suggested to Leda they redisgn it and they seem to have taken my comments on board.

The KWs cost me £1,349 delivered to my door. When I was looking to get into a Leda group buy (that Peter used?) it was looking at being over £1k discounted, so is there that much difference in cost?

Don't know, mine were around £800 but then I dont have the troublesome coil over rears and that was with the rennlist 20 or more group buy so the discounts were bigger.
I thought the list price for KW was closer to £1600 at £1350 should I get into rebuilding/indexing my rear torsion bars I would seriously consider the upgrade.

I have a set going on ebay this week.

£500 buys em.

225lbs front springs, and 100lbs rear helpers.

Just wanted to add my tuppence worth on this, but I'm very happy with my Leda suspension. I have the rear helper springs and yes, there is a little noise occasionaly (easily drowned out by engine noise [:D]), but its not intrusive and no worse than any other mechanical noise in the car, so easily ignored.

The transformation to the handling on the track and road is fantastic, I have them set about mid way which feels very taught (which does make you want to drive around pot holes) but its still quite comfortable and I don't often feel the need to change it for trackdays. I think we used 300lb/ft at the front and 100 at the rear, but having experienced it with and without the M030 roll bars know that they are mostly responsible for the firmness.

I can't remember exactly the cost of mine but it was circa £1K in a group buy as Fen mentioned (which was just after a price rise).

If I were in the market again I would definately consider the KW's - I particulalry like the idea of the valve that takes the impact out of bumps/kerbs, but wouldn't have any hesitancy about choosing Leda again (and they're fairly local so I know that getting them serviced should be pretty straight forward).

In fact the only thing I want to do with the suspension at the moment is lower the car further, but that's quite a long way down my list of priorities at the moment.
Best regards,
Peter.
