Legal child seats in rear of carrera 3.2

Has anyone found a legal & safe solution to carrying children (aged 5 upwards) in the rear seats of the carrera 3.2 ??

We made a booster seat fit the car seat base, but then realised there is no head restraint.
I'm reluctant to use it because I don't know
a) if it's safe without head restraint and
b) if it would stand the test of a police spot check.

A friend working in the police suggested that the approach to "non-standard" cars and the latest child seat laws would depend on the mood of the particular policeman on the day. Does anyone have better information ??

Thanks

Thanks for the tip - I've had a look through and sadly there's only one thread which has advice for children over 5 (who are in the next seat above most of those mentioned in other threads). This was in 2006, before the law got tightened up. So I'm still a bit stuck...

I fully agree with jimjam. I spent ages trying to find a booster that would be a safe fit for my tall 4 year old. Gave up in the end, She fits in the back seat perfectly without and that's the way it will stay!!

Maxi Cosi Rodi SPS .. standard / narrow width

Thanks for the info - that helps to clarify the issues a little. I agree - safety is the key thing, with the threat of prosecution a close second (!).

By the way, I am the wife, and it is my car :)

jamescharnley - many thanks for the maxi cosi link. Does this one absolutely definitely fit in the back of the car ???
(It can only be ordered online - halfords/mothercare etc don't stock it - so I can't get one to try before I order and probably have to pay to send it back if it's not right).........

We bought one for our 4 yr old grandaughter to use & it fits on the rear seats of our 964 &she fits OK.

I use 2 of them in the rear of my '73 car and am happy with the fit. It is never going to be an absolute perfect fit due to the shape of the 911 seats, but these are some of the best. Originally they were recomended to me by SBSquickfit .... it might be worth giving them a call to see if they have updated their advice ( number in the back of PP ).

I also use these same booster seats for my daughters in my 'modern' cars too as I think they are great booster seats anyway .

Gary71 knows what he is doing as his job with a major car manufacturer is related to restraint systems

me too been looking everwhere for one , did the maxi cosi one work out ?

also been looking at the recaro monza , has anyone tried that one ?

one other thing , anyone got a set of rear seat belts for sale :)

I am of the opinion that it is totally insane trying to fit a child seat in the back of a 911 when the seat appears to have been designed for a child in the first place.

My 5 year old grandson 'Fits' much better in the back seat and would appear more secure and stable than when he balences ontop of a booster seat which doesn't fit.

I would argue that the rear seat of a 911 is already a child seat and there is no reason to try to fit an auxiliary seat onto it.

Haha, I've been trying to explain that to the wife. Being a teacher she wants to see a report saying the seats are fit for a child. Crazy woman!

thanks for that halfords had one in stock tried it at the weekend seems a pretty good fit and a damm sight cheaper than the porsche junior !

waiting to here back on the seatbelts , does that kit come with the plastic pieces for the rear parcel shelf ??

cheers

From 8 months to 4 years you're fairly limited.

Could try a Prince similar ot below:

After 4 years most kids should fir in the rear.

We like many others use a Romer Prince for up to 18Kg which is ok. We now have the Maxi Rodi mentioned above, also recomended by SBSQuickfit. I haven't used it in the back of the 3.2 yet, waiting for seatbelts to be fitted.

I have to say though I am tempted to go with out the booster, my boy is very tall for an about to be 5yr old, and the booster fit didn't seem to be absolutely perfect. All will become clear when we get the belts fitted and he sits in the back.

I am more concerned with saftey than a potential telling off by plod. The rules are way to general and the rear of older 911s seems to fall outside them.
