Hi folks, had an eventful week.
Got an opportunity to Race at Spa Francorchamps in the VW Cup so I grabbed it!
Flew out to Belgium on Thursday, had a qualifying session on the Friday which having never drove the car or the track or the type of race car (MK5 Golf GTi fwd turbo with slicks).
I assumed I would be last place (25 cars on the grid) I qualified 19th.
We then had a parade drive to a town called Stavelot, very car friendly! We drove the race cars there (150+ cars) to the town around 6 miles away with a police escort which was unreal!
On the Saturday I started 19th, dropped to 25th as the guy in front of me stalled so was dead last, fought my way back to 16th Position. Was very happy with that result.
Race 2 I started in 16th Position, dropping to 20th due to having never done a standing start in a race before! But yet again, managed to push the car and myself to grab an 11th Position which the team was very happy with. Setting a best time of 2:54.406
Flew home that evening so I could compete in the Scottish Legends Championship on the sunday.
Rounds 4/5 were to be held on the same day, so this enrolled 6 races for each driver.
Had an awful first round with damages to the car, was sitting in 8th position, and got wiped out by a rookie, resulting in the following:
Race 1: 22nd position from 8th - Due to crash
Race 2 : DNF from 1st position on Lap 5 - Fuel Pipe burst
Race 3 : DNF from 8th position on Lap 3 - Rookie hit me and ruined my suspension.
Round 5 later on in the day was a bit better:
Race 1: 11th Position from 19th
Race 2: 4th Position from 11th
Race 3: 3rd Positon from 4th - My first ever podium, could have been 3 podiums with my 4th and my DNF from 1st position.
Racing again in reverse direction on the 4th of August - which I hold the track record for so if anyone is in the area of Knockhill on those dates, come up for some free entry and food and drink!
