I will be travelling down on the Thursday morning taking the train across at 09.06 and back on the Monday at 13.58. anyone else going ?

would be good to drive down with any other 3.2s or just meet up. We will of course be on the PCGB campsite taking either my SSE or Hugh Smiths 3.2 Sport.

Cheers Si

Not this year sorry guys.

I have to prioritise, so I have decided to go to Classic LM. Current plan is to go with a friend in his car - an RS Lightweight (960kg) with a 3.5 litre MFI engine [:D]

RB

I have booked via Travel Destinations to camp at the porsche curves, but due to a heavy work schedule in and around that time I can only accommodate travelling out on the Friday, back on the Monday

If anyone else is on a Friday/Monday timetable how about we hook up in convoy

Details are as follows: -

Outbound
Friday 11th 10.00am Tunnel at Folkestone
Return
Monday 14th 16.00pm Tunnel at Calais

Regards

Simon,
We're doing basically the same, Tunnel out @07.58 on the Thursday and back 13.58 on Monday.
I reckon we'll be taking my brother in law's 964 and aunt's C4S, I think the old 3.2 might stay home this year and have a rest!! Planning on taking the Rouen / Chatres route this time.
I'm slightly concerned about what I've heared about the French police's attitude to speeding now, sounds like it might be a little more of a sedate drive down this time[]

Regards,

No sorry, I'm doing the Classic Le Mans and the Historic Monaco.
I'd be interested to hear what has changed with regard the French Police attitude.

Brian,
They've apparently adopted the British goverments stance towards speeding, except being French they've really gone to town on it. They've popped a few Gatso's in on the A26 near Calais and other such major routes, I understand they're being quite heavy handed about it aswell. They even now have the power to take your license from you on the spot, knowing how much the French love the English I expect there to be a heavy presence in the route down to LeMans!!

Regards,

Phil, Would be good to hitch on to your group, we got lost last year although I think we would know better this time.

I have heard that the French are only concentrating on the roads within about 30K of Calais. They have always had the ability to take the license it hapenned last year to a driver of a subaru caught doing 50 in a 30 who wasnt "humble" when caught, he had to get a friend to drive back and take the car the rest of the way, interestingly the car behind him was a ML Merc and he just got a fine as he was not a young lad and new his manners etc.

We found last year that it was much like the UK (only faster), if you get on a run of cars doing 100ish and the occassional blip to 120 or so then it just seems normal. If you hit a batch of cars doing 80 then its stupid to blast through at 110 or so.
So much of the road is miles from anywhere, they would have to be very well hidden to get you.

Anyhow I am looking forward to it, lets keep in contact and make arrangements nearer the time.

Best Regards Si

Simon,
Like you say, we'll exchange contacts nearer the time. It would be good to meet up on the way down, always more fun driving down as part of a convoy !! Having driven it a few times now, I reckon I can do it now without getting lost. However, the roads around Rouen are always really busy and its easy to take a wrong turn.

Cheers for now,

However, the roads around Rouen are always really busy and its easy to take a wrong turn.

Carry on past Rouen and go through Le Havre, A (motorway) roads all the way, and the Pont de Normandie is pretty spectacular. Then, just head south to join the N138 north of Alencon, then the A28 down to Le Mans.

It's a pity that some anglos knock the French police - even when they booked me for 'grande vitesse', they were very friendly.

Yeah, much better to blatt through at 160.....

Only Joking.....

In all honesty imagine the Brit police if faced with a hoard of hooligans in fast cars zapping accross merry England..... They would have an absolute field day.

So a loud Huzzah! for the frog rozzers ( except the ones that pulled Rich Bernau - they should be publically humilliated and stripped of their badges and water pistols)

Anyone heard about a newish road possibly a dual carriageway which runs from Paris to near Le Mans?
I was wondering whether it could be an alternative (possibly better) route to driving down to Rouen and then across.

OK - booked now - going fast ferry Portsmouth - Caen on Wednesday, staying in Alencon overnight and then camping at la Groirie. I'm actually having my stag night (weekend / week) at Le Mans so won't be driving much - (un)fortunately I'm getting older now so it will probably be a quiet affair!

Last time I was stopped by the French Police (for doing 80mph going round a 50 (I think) kph bend) not only were they very nice but they also let me off!
