Perhaps we should do a FAQ's listing for where people can get Turbo badges. Do you think he would like a "Carrera" sticker to go on the lower door to match up with the door handles? [:'(]
Sorry Dave, IMHO if it ain't a Porsche don't pretend that it is. Sell the Golf and get a 944 and you will have a real Porsche with Porsche printed on things all over the place.
Don't taint his dream.[]
he wants a Porsche.
Well get a Porsche then! []
My Porsche has numerous parts with the VW crest stamped on them
....and a DB9 has parts with Ford stamped on them but you wouldn't put an Aston Martin badge on a Fiesta - mind you they did with the Capri [8|]

I think you'll struggle [] The early 944s had scripted handles, the later ones did not. So there are many owners of later cars who will be fighting you for the earlier scripted handles.
That's strange. By "scripted", do you mean they have the porsche logo on them?
Here in the States, the early cars had the ugly VW ones with the faux wood-grain inserts (up thru 85.5 models). The 86 and 87 cars had the better solid handles but no script, and the 88-91 cars had the better solid handles with the script. The latching mechanism is different for the post 85.5 handles which makes them a bear for interchanging them with earlier cars.

I have mostly encountered friendly and helpful people so far and not those suggesting that i may use the 'turbo' badge as well. im ONLY 21 at the moment and golf gti's are what im into until i can afford to buy, run and insure a 911 turbo, then possible a 996 C4. When im 50.
So in summary, yes thats right, i do own a vw and yes i did contact a porsche owners club for advice but you dont go to your local sony centre with a B+W home cinema and ask for advice on it do you?
Don't mind John, he's been auditioning for grouchy-old-men for a while now []
The 924 was developed by Porsche for Audi by the way. /anorak
I think the only problem here is that you are looking to use a part sought after by Porsche Owners, on something that is (with all the best interntion) not a Porsche.
OK this is a twofold problem:
1. The part is sought after by Porsche owners - who are going to snap it up given the opportunity.
2. Don't try and make a car something it isn't. The golf is a great car - modifying it can be fun, but it ain't gonna make it a Poorsssshhh...
Given these issues, a little gentle ribbing can be expected []
If you can find the handles then good for you - but you might do worse than to post on here and offer them to the highest bidder when you do[]
Please don't think all Porsche owners are aloof. Most are really friendly and will welcome your enthusiasm (even John - he's a nice guy really) (actually he made me say that)
Stick around and join in. I'm sure you'll fit in as you are an enthusiast[]

We are an eclectic bunch Dave and open to all types of car (my own third car was also a Gti, a metro Gti) but then someone stole it, so I'm back down to just two now []

Old enough to command a bit of respect from you young ruffians.
I'm just off out to the garage to polish my engraved door handles.
Bah! Humbug!
Did I read correctly or did the young scally wag say that he wants a 911 Turbo. Not only does he want to put Porsche badges on his shopping car but he then disis the 944 possy on their own turf.

Interesting you should mention an Aston Martin as the now defunct Vantage featured 944 turbo side lighters in the front bumper [8|]

I wonder if they fill with water on the Vantage as well? BTW How cool is it to have heater ellements on your headlamp lenses - or perhaps they get water in them and steam up as well.
