Hello All
I posted in the Boxster section a couple of months ago as i was hankering after a Boxster S but that never came off, i have since found what looks like a great price for a LHD 98 Carrera quite a few options on it too, If it has a full Main dealer service history and has only just been serviced in Feb does anyone think i have uch to worry about?
I say this because i would be at the top of my budget to get it and could not afford a proper inspection, would i be able to notice things wrong by test drive and look?
Heres hoping to becoming a porsche owner.

Cheers
J

Sorry i forgot to say, is there any independants in Sheffield that anyone knows about?
Or anyone that fancies a 03 VX220 Turbo in Coral Blue
Thanks

Unless you really know what you are looking at, I think it would be a false economy not to get an inspection done. For around £250, you could get an experienced eye which might save a lot of expense and heartache in the future. It isn't a guarantee, but it is peace of mind. Being LHD (and 996 prices being at a low) it isn't going to fly out the door, so take your time. Any genuine seller will not be fazed by an independent inspection, and most will expect such a request. A friend of mine recently bought a very nice, fairly well spec'd, 1999 C4 with 50000 miles for £28500 recently if this is any help.

IMHO, on a 98 car full OPC history isn't essential, as long as it has been cared for by a known independent.

Richard is 100% right.
I would personally take to an OPC for the inspection.
That way you could have the option for the extended warrantee and also more bargaining power.
LHD cars are very-very good value for money, either new or used...
Take a look at http://www.mobile.de/cgi-bin/index_cgi.pl?sprache=2 for prices.
A UK sourced/licensed LHD should be about only £3k (or €5k) above the EU prices to allow for transport and licensing/MOT expenses. But do not forget also that the "mobile" prices are also negotiable.
Ask the seller to go half&half on the inspection and if the inspection comes clear you pay him the money back,
Cheers

Richard,

I assume your friends 99 C4 was a left hooker at that price?

ArBee

No, it is Right Hand Drive. 99 (T) C4 Tiptronic in Arctic Silver, black full leater interior, 18" turbo wheels, OBC, Electric memory seats, headlight washers, clear lenses (maybe all C4's have these), CD changer, Sunroof, full OPC Service history etc, etc, etc. He bought it privately from a chap near Bristol.

Realistically, I don't think it is far off the mark for a private purchase. Just as a comparison, Autobahn at Coventry have three 996's under 30k at the moment. 911 Virgin have three at £27-30k and a left hooker at £23k. It's a buyers market, and there are plenty out there to choose from.
