LHD vs RHD

I am sure this has been hotly debated but...

I have recently become the lucky owner of a fabulous Red 964RS and its LHD . I sold my RHD one about 4 years ago ( silly mistake I know ) but having driven this one several hundred miles now there is a part of me that says LHD is the way to go. I keep thinking I want a RHD car but sitting on the left , no pedal offset , no power steering etc it just feels right

Thoughts ?
regards
James

Have to agree, much prefer non assisted lefties in a '64, especially when they have the larger 92 litre fuel tank fitted. (not possible with rhd)......but unfortunately you, I and many others are totally wrong as you will soon find out on this thread [:D]

Well, isn't RHD an afterthought for many cars (just look at the ergonomics of dashboards)?

The 911 was designed as a LHD car, right? RHD is (marginally) compromised.

I'm so used to proper cars being left hand drive I nearly jumped in the wrong side when I picked up my new 997RS earlier today. (No really i did) I guess that means it's not a proper car.[:)]

Yeah. LHD its gotta be.Perfect driving position.Left elbow casually leant on the (open) window ledge, right hand doing the necessary.Just like the locals.

Good job Simons car is RHD as big problems for LHD in Australia.
Met a guy at Bedford on Sat who had put Power steering on a LHD RS!!!

Sorry, been travelling with no connection.

First thing is that it is a matter of personal taste. In the UK, if being driven regularly on the road, LHD is a real PITA. For instance, I used to use a swipe entry card for a car park almost every day. That would not be fun in a LHD car. However, if you are almost only doing trackdays, it doesn't matter.

Next is driving position. LHD is less flawed than RHD but the RHD position isn't a problem.

Power steering isn't a problem. If you want to be macho, non power steering is for you. You might get a little better feel but there have been various "special" 964 RS race cars that have not only had power steering but that have won their championship.

Finally, I couldn't take make car to Oz if it were LHD so RHD was a bit of a no brainer. In addition, I would rather have 1 of 56 than 1 of thousands..........

Great debate, sometimes I wonder if its more PAS v's Unassisted, or Right v's Left.

The offset pedals are a 911 characteristic for me, so I like it.

At the time I was surprised Porsche fitted PAS to the RS, but since then have read that in competition PAS is helpful as competition driving is physically demanding.

The rhd steering feel is very good, but I will admit to not having driven a lhd rs.

Finally I agree with Simon, the advantages of RHD are first practical as our roads are laid out for rhd. (I had a g60 golf in lhd and it was a pain). Secondly, I would say most drivers, brought up on rhd cars, can slot quick accurate gearchanges better with their left hand?

Personally I prefer LHD. Much better for kerb crawling, Posting letters, quick trips to the offy etc You don't have to worry about cars coming along side you and taking your door off.
