LHD???

Just found this : http://www.lhdporsche.com/

Looks like an official dealer importing LHD cars.

Mega bargains to be had, I quite like the 2004 C4S for less than £50K.

What do you guys think, is buying a LHD car a false economy?

If you want to save money and go LHD why not go over the water yourself, it's really straight forward and there are loads of dealers to choose from. As to the economy bit, you'll probably need to sell it back in mainland Europe at the end of the day to get best value.

You'll get a better car upfront but must remember the reason why!

Have you driven one for a few days over here to see if you like driving on the wrong side. My Carrera is LHD and I'm fine with it, but it can be a pain overtaking and getting in/out of car parks and toll paypoints.

Anyway I'm sure you enjoy whatever you buy.

My first car was a LHD Boxster which I sold to RSJ Sportcars and changed to a RHD 2.7

I was not sure if I wanted to go back down that route though which is why I thought I would put a post on here and see what others in the club think.

Spend a week or so driving round France in a RHD car and you will get a feel for what a pain it is.

To overtake anything is a team effort as you need to your passenger to tell you when the road ahead is clear. This does take a lot of trust.

Imagine the agro of paying your £1 at the Dartford Tunnel in a LHD car.

IMHO it would be a false ecconomy as you buy a Porsche to enjoy driving it so you don't want to introduce unnecessary agro.

The best way is to hang back a little more than normal so you can see round the car when overtaking. As to the tunnel the easy way is to get a Tag, works on RHD cars as well!!!!!!!!!!
 
I bought my LHD 964 last year and bought the car on it's condition rather than what side the stering wheel was. 911's are not that wide and having driven RHD cars for 9 years , i had no problem with adjusting. I agree with the overtaking issues but usually you can see straight through the car in front. ( It's great for undertaking though ! )

On models like mine ( 964 ) it's better in left hand drive as you get somewhere to put your left foot as this was denied to RHD owners due to the Bosch plug thingy.

In addition, and this is only what i've heard , the cars in Germany are serviced better.
