Liftmaster Low Profile 2 Ton Hydrualic Trolley Car Jack

I was at Curborough and spoke to someone about the price of low profile trolley jacks, typically over £100.
I found this on Ebay for £40 delivered and same weight and spec as the high priced versions.

I have no knowledge of this jack but the following was posted on www.amazon.co.uk as a customer review:

Very disapointing product, very flimsy made components used once & thought was going to break under weight of car. WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND FOR USE WITH SMALL CARS SIZE clio`s, fiesta`s, punto`s, corsa`s.
Any family saloon, hatchback you can feel the jack struggling to cope with the lift felt very un-safe from a seasoned semi-pro in car mechanics. Again very disapointing product.
Made with cheap components hence the price tag. How it passed safety standards `god only knows` feel ripped off.

the trolley jack is capable of a 2-ton lift, perhaps, but felt very flimsy & un-safe to use on a mid-range sized car.

I guess I'll stick to the wind up with the scissor jack first then place the hydraulic for the rest of the lift.[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Who knows maybe I'll treat myself for Christmas with the proper racing low-lift jack..

I've got the Clarke racing jack:

Clarke Jack

It's the only one that will slide under my lowered car and has a rubber lift pad so there's no need to put any other blocks on the pad to protect the jacking points. Although they're only rated to 1.25 ton, you're not lifting all the car at the same time so it's more than good enough. Well worth the £100 cost IMO.

Just a heads up on the Clark jack, keep checking the Allen bolts/screws, they do get loose with use.....[&:]

I've been through a few, the seals go on the clarke ones and the look a likes, although you can buy new seals, its a phaff job. Oh and reassemble with loctite, and the screws never come loose. I wouldnt worry too much about whether the jack is flimsy, as the weight is always going to secured by axle stands anyway.

Something like this is good. There are plenty like it, and all suitable for lowered 964s, unless you are going below standard RS ride height.
 
Well my Liftmaster Low Profile 2 Ton Hydrualic Trolley Car Jack arrived fast, 2 days after ordering and Yesterday I put it to use.
Very sturdy and good lift action. Super low access, more than I need for my RS+10 lowered 964.

The jack is performing very well, it has a CE approval decal on it.

Its cheap because its not ali, which isnt a problem if you keep it in the garage, but they are phaff if you take them to circuit. I've been through a few, the seals go on the clarke ones and the look a likes, although you can buy new seals, its a phaff job. Oh and reassemble with loctite, and the screws never come loose. Yes it's not made from Aluminium but there is no difference in overall weight between them though. I don't leave my tools lying around outside so the need to spend the extra isn't necessary.
I'm not a racer, just the odd track day 1-2x/year. I would have a "Snap On" tool kit if I was.

Chris you must use a trolley jack on a smooth surface so the castors can move and adjust their positions as the car height goes up and down.
It's a 2 ton rated CE approved jack, so probably tested to over 3 tons. I wouldn't use the 1.25 ton ones as they are nearer the weight of the car and I err on the side of caution.

Yes you do get what you pay for. They are all probably made in the same factory and sprayed a different colour, re-badged and sold at reassuringly high prices. :))

I used to work for Snap-On and made hacksaws on a CNC machine.

Snap-On have been using companies in China for the last 10 years to make most of there tools. This is not something that they are happy to advertise.

If we got an order that had quality issues it would get put to one side for the Manager to check and he would always send it out no matter what the problem was!

I got 50% off and do have a lot of tools. Ok some of it is very good stuff but in general i think the likes Facom and even the Draper expert range is snapping at Snap-on heels.
The only thing that Snap-on have is the name which is still classed as the best.

Dont be a tool snob, try some of the other brands they really are quite good!

I've checked out your link, and at £180 a pop, that makes for an awful lot of Liftmasters.
I've been using mine quite regularly without any problems, smooth action and no hints of poor workmanship nor leaks.
 

I bought an RAC jack from argos recently, 2.25 ton and has a long reach/lifting arm, it's very sturdy and the long arm came in very handy when I was spending a lot of time under the car during the summer doing jobs it got the car quite high off the ground. £60 as well which seemed like good value.

That definitely won't go under my lowered car.
 
Wouldn't go under mine either at the back but that was easily remidied by driving it onto a couple of small planks of wood thus raising the height by a few inches
