Light in Boot compartment

just noticed that the light in the boot compartment isnt working, bulb seems ok
is this a seperate fuse ?
could it be the switch mechanism, the solenoid opener is working fine
any ideas?

thanks
Jon

There is no separate fuse for the luggage compartment light. It's most likely to be the microswitch on the latch - under the panel here:

Cant help with this one I am afraid, but on the same subject my light works occasionally.

The manual doesnt state clearly if it should be on all the time when the boot is open or only when the lights are on etc.

I am assuming it should come one when the boot is open regardless?

Will check the switch above as suggested.

Had the same sort of problem when I found that the latch mechanism wasn't opening fully so the switch for the light wasn't triggered. Considered dismantling the unit to clean or replace it, etc., etc., but before I did thought I'd give the mechanism a good spray with an "appropriate agent" (in this instance WD40 was nearest to hand). Did the trick and has worked fine ever since.

The bulbs for the front and rear trunk lights are the same, so swap them.

If you open the front trunk and the light does not come on, then leave the front trunk open. Open the rear trunk and see if the front trunk light then comes on. If the front bulb is good and the light comes on when you open the rear trunk, then it is the microwswitch for the front latch. Porsche changed the design of the microswitch in mid Feburary 2000, so if you car was built before then that is the usual suspect.

If both bulbs are good and neither light comes on when both trunks are opened, then turn on the ignition key and see if they come on. If so, then the car is still in the transit mode. If the car is in the transit mode then the interior lights also do not come on, unless you turn the ignition switch on and then open the door.

Embarassed to say it was the bulb ! took the mechanism apart, as shown in the post above found no fault, re checked the bulb - one trip to halfords later! all works fine

thanks though

aha.....I've actually checked mine and know why its not working....theres no bulb [8|]

can anyone tell me what type it is please ?

I have heard of many instances where the light is staying on after the lid is closed.

To check this out climb into the luggage space and get somebody to close the Lid and verify that the light is actually going out. [:)]

Ooops. When I typed my response I thought I was in the Boxster section, so I mentioned 2 trunks.

Climb into the luggage compartment....

Another way would be to set the alarm and see if you get a single beep due to a faulty latch microswitch.

The best one I've heard is to put a digital camera in the boot on a time delay shutter (without flash). Close the boot and see if you get an image. Thanks to Mercurial for that one.

That's gotta be better than climbing in.Surely only a jockey could get in and stay in with the lid down. Also you're taking an awful punt on your beloved's goodwill.

Happy to be of help. [:)]

Hi All, by far the Easiest way to check is open lid as normal and when open close lock mechanism with a screwdriver this will break micro switch light should go out.
But do not forget to open lid as normal before closing it. (hope that makes sense)
