Bl&*dy thing is stuck permanantly, went through the manual, doesnt even get a mention. Tried all the fuses that may have anything to do with illumination nothing turned it off!!?? any suggestions before I pull it out.

Agree with PP. Seem to remember reading a procedure somewhere for this mod. I am sure it used an LED which was on all the time with negligible drain on battery.

My 1997 C4 has this feature, but it doesn't look bright enough to be an LED. It seems to go on and off with the interior lights. Do your interior lights go off when the door is closed (after a delay)? It may also come on if the bonnet or engine lid light is stuck on, so check these to make sure you don't wake up with a flat battery.

Thanks Guys, Darren's note made me think,

Originally the car battery was getting a bit low(just managed one turn over, so I thought the faulty ignition light was the source of the problem as it was permanantly on and all the other interior lights were working correctly . So I stuck the recharger on, which involves leaving the bonnet open slightly for the power lead(1cm) but low enough that the bonnet light is of, so one presumes as the all the other lights automatically turned off, I presumed all was fine on the interior light circuit front.

Anyway, went out took the battery conditioner off, closed the bonnet and 20 seconds later all the interior lights went off including the ignition!! so I can only presume there is a seperate circuit so that is the last light source when you have a 'flatish battery' weird but sorted.
