Lights flickering on Full Beam

Hi all ...
My car has dynamic cornering headlights which I understand will control the dipped beam, which seems to work fine, however when full beam is engaged and I'm moving, the lights appear to flicker, which is very noticeable when driving down a tree lined country lane for instance. Is this normal? Car is with OPC for servicing so I mentioned it but they claim everything appears normal. Also there is a very small amount of play in the front boot catch when closed, again my OPC say they can't see anything untoward and are not sure it's adjustable anyway ... And suggestions welcome

Can't wait for Spring and for the salt to be washed away [;)]

Hi,

Flickering headlights on main beam - not normal, no. Is it one side or both? The obvious cause is something loose, the lens, reflectors or the lamps within the lens. There's an article here http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=684483 how to remove the lights if you wish to check them out yourself.

As regards the luggage compartment lid, the catch is adjustable, but you need to remove the centre trim panel to access it. The catch has slots machined in the mounting face, so it can be moved up and down. Only small adjustments should be required

Regards,

Clive.

Thanks Clive. You'd think they would have come up with a dash mounted switch by now to convert beam from UK to European rather than the rather complicated manual process, which you appear to have fully mastered!
I can't tell if it's just one beam flickering or both, because it only flickers when on the move and then only when on full beam
Will try to discover more ..
Many thanks, Mike

Are they flickering on/off ?
I only ask as I thought it might possibly be the level adjusters working.. ?

Yes it may well be, but would you notice them working, giving an impression of flickering?
They don't noticeable turn on / off because it's a very quick flicker, either as if they are moving to and fro very quickly or on / off very quickly ... Can't really tell which. OPC still can't find a fault and it's only noticeable when moving and on Full Beam.

Mike,

I have dynamic cornering headlights on my Cayman and haven't experienced the problem you describe.

You say that the problem only occurs when you're moving but now it's dark, have you tried parking up in front of a wall or a garage door with the lights on main beam and thumping each unit or the wing to see if the condition can be induced?

I presume that your PC has reseated the units to make sure that it's not just a contact problem.

Mike,

You really need to take a closer look at this flicker. Identifying it as movement or on/off would be a start. Try driving up and down with an assistant standing by the side of road with camcorder and play it back on slowmo. [;)] Is it one or both lights? Is it on/off or a swinging lamp. Narrowing down the fault will help with final diagnosis.

When you find out, please let us know. It may be of help others in the future. [:)]

Regards,

Clive.

Clive,
Many thanks, I'll give it a go if I ever get my car back from a nameless London OPC.
They picked it up on Monday for its first service and I'm still waiting whilst they try to source tyres, which they assured me they had in stock before they picked up the car ... Yes this is the same lot that lost the keys last time they had the car and had to replace all the locks and keys []
