Lights going mad!

The lights on my C4 have gone a bit odd. When no lights are on and I press the brake pedal the passenger front headlight comes on, then goes off again when I take my foot off the brake pedal. Also when the lights are on and I press the brake pedal the passenger side rear light goes off! Any ideas what this could be before I start poking about?

Many thanks,
Steve.

Steve,

Sounds like a short in one of the rear light clusters, have you changed any lamps lately? or is there moisture in one of them?

Kevin

Could well be moisture as got caught in very heavy rain recently.
I will have a look. If there is moisture what can be done to stop this happening again?

Thanks,
Steve.

Dumb question for you: I have taken the passenger side rear light cluster off and don't know what one of the bulbs is for! Obviously you have the indicator on the outside, the rear light / brake light in the middle, but what is the other one for!!??

There should only be 2 bulbs - indicator on the outside and stop/tail nearer to the centre of the car. US cars (and, maybe some other markets) do have provision for what is called "side marker lights" and it's possible you have a bulb installed there but it's likely to be non-functional.

Rear fog and reversing lights are in the centre panel - not in the outer light units.

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dave. Had it apart again and there are just the 2 bulbs, my mistake I was having a thick moment! Anyway can't get to the bottom of the problem with the lights going mad so car is booked in to the local auto electrician tomorrow a.m.
Thanks,
Steve.

Steamy,

Caught in heavy rain recently.....what you really mean is you can't stop yourself from washing and detailing it !

Hope all well !

Ben.
