My rear lights don't seem as bright as they used to be and two bulbs are blowing a a monthly basis so I thought I'd take a looksee today when I replaced the bulbs.
I was surprised to find how much oxidation there was around the lamp holders and the bulbs themselves.Another consequence of water ingress to the boot [:(]

I used a soft brass wire brush to clean up the bulbs, sockets and electrical tags then applied a smidgin of grease to the bulbs and holders and the difference is amazing! When I remove the lamps for re-sealing I might replace the lamp reflecters as they are looking decidedly dull and faded now.

I swapped my sidelight bulbs and others for LED ones. The area of light may be slightly smaller but definitely a lot brighter.

Cheers,

I Mentioned this a few months Back..I were told that LED were not Legal?
I thought of Wrapping the fitting in Foil...

not a bad idea . Another option would be to use a Halfaruds spray laquer maybe ?

Not sure about the legal side but considering that cars are now being manufactured with LED lights it does raise a question as to their legality or not. LEDs are less likely to blow and therefore the chances of being one light out (front or rear) must be a plus. The number of cars I have seen with a tail light or a brake light out on the road is high, at least one a day.

Cheers,
