For my dilema..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yours hoping for some good advice .....

Not used one on a 944 but have experience of this with bikes.

IMO

Lighter flywheel or crank will loose alot of torque but will rev alot faster (but rev out quicker)

It will give you a smaller "power band" higher up the rev range and in extreme cases, possible lack of traction at the clutch or rear wheels.

More engine braking could upset the brake balance to too much rear that could be noticable in the wet.

It all depends on how much weight is lost.

My opinion is based on my motorcycles, so best listen to somebody who has used one on a 944

Mike

Just in case there are a few others looking at this thread....
Aparrently NOBODY makes a light alloy flywheel for the S2.....
Ive mailed a number of the suppliers in both the UK + the US + have come up blank....[][][]

UNLESS you folks know better.??????????????

I guess you are looking for a new flywheel because the old one wasn't resurfaced on your clutch job. I assume in your search you have talked to Fidanza. I would have though they make one for an S2 or could make one up for you.

951 owners have shaved down the forward side of the stock flywheel with sucess and I suspect you could do this also and not have to fork over for a new lightweight FW, just machine shop time. I believe the Fidanza is about 6.5 lbs. People thave taken the stock FW down to around 7 lbs. If you go the machining route you can pick any weight you want. Maybe at 10 lbs you would get where you want to be and not have quite as much drivability issues due to lack of inertial momentum. You have to get the revs up pretty good when taking off from a stop with a 6.5 lb FW.

Cheers Ice
I have spoken to Fidanza + they tell me that they dont or wont do one .....

Next route is to get the original one "skimmed" although there is a LOT of judder....So it maybee that too much will have to be taken off ..So im getting a slightly "used" one + machining that so that ive got a "back up"....

i shall report back as + when i manage to get it sorted......
