Any more thoughts/ views on Lille trip 29 November? That date would suit me very nicely, but need to think about booking Le Tunnel.
Jon

So consensus seems to be Saturday 29 November. Aim is to catch earlyish Eurotunnel, drive down to Lille (about 70-75 miles) park outside the town and find somewhere for lunch, mooch around the Christmas market, Chritmas shopping, etc, and back in time for an early evening crossing. Takers so far:
  • Jon Grindall
  • Chris Mouzouris
  • Karl Lodwick
  • John Cherrington
......and passengers.

I'll dig into details of tunnel crossing times/ fares etc; see what info I can find on Lille, any Christmas market details, and come back before end tomorrow with appropriate links.

Don't necessarily have to take the precious cars if, for the sake of argument, you were frightened of getting "du sel" on les GT3RS delicate bits, or les rues Francais snapping at votre splitters.

Any other takers or maybes?

Chums,
Confirmation of arrangements- Following several PMs, I have now booked Eurotunnel crossings as follows:

Out - 10.35hrs 29 November 2008 (but suggest we get there at say 08.30 to blag an earlier slot)
Return - 20.37hrs 29 November 2008
Cost £54

Perhaps Lille John (Cherrington) could devise an interesting route to Lille - since he has secret maps known only to himself and key members of the resistance.

With regards to parking there are three Park & Ride Options @ Porte d'Arras, Porte des Postes, and CHR B Calmette, all of which have 24hr security surveillance, all of which are free, and all of which link directly to the Metro into the centre. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:lille_metro_map.png

For a bit of background on Lille see www.independent.co.uk/travel/48-hours-in/lille-france-464281.html and some information on the Christmas markets can be found at www.christmasmarkets.com/france/lille-christmas-market.htmc

So far, we have confirmed travellers as -
John Cherrington
Karl Lodwick
Jon Grindall
Chris Mouzouris

Plenty of time for others - all welcome.
A bientot
Jon
