List of Independant workshops

I am thinking of selling my 944T and buying a S2 or a 968.
The adverts that I have been looking at are for cars scattered around the country and access to a list of indies for PPI purposes would be very useful.
Is there a list anywhere - I have tried searching but nothing came up - I expect my search tems where wrong[]
A pointer her in the right direction would be excellent.

I know that there is a list of indies in my home region under the section for that region (number 15). Perhaps the same thing exists under other region's areas.

I do have to ask why you're thinking of selling a Turbo to buy an S2 or S3 though?

Fen - you might well ask that - I have over the years owned a 944S - a 944S2 and a 944T and I think really I like the driving style of the S2 best - reasonable acceleration and plenty of low down torque.
The turbo on boost is certainly "invigorating" but overall I think I prefer the S2 and I assume the 968 would be a similar driving experience - although I have never driven one - I have heard people say that the gearbox ratios are not spaced out properly.
I will look through the different regions areas and see if I can find any other lists of Indies.

I know my indie is happy to travel to do PPI's, although his travel rates are a little high.

If you know a good indie, it's worth asking the question.

Oli.

Yes I know some Indies will travel but I would rather use a local one (to where the car is) so they can get the car into the workshop and get it up on a ramp and have a poke about underneath etc.

Actually I was speaking to my indie this morning. He has 2 customers looking to get out of nice S2s that he has been looking after for years, one a Guards J-plate with 55k miles and the other a Glacier blue G-plate with 110,000. He's Andy Moss on 07762 244477, based in Honiton.

He says both come from owners who have not been shy of getting maintenance done (new suspension etc. fitted when recommended as well as the service stuff) and if he says they are mechanically sorted then I'd believe him.

By the way Nautic is my favourite colour for a 944.

Yes - Nautic is one of my favourits as well.
Thanks for the info about the cars but as I live in Norfolk I was hoping to find something a little closer.
I have also got to decide wether to sell the turbo before I buy another or after.
I did end up with two 944's a few years ago and SWMBO lost her sense of humor for a short while.

Have a word with Andrew Hazell the 968 moderator, his 968 is up for sale now, its had a shed load of work done on it and will make someone a great car.

I think it also appears in next months 911 and porsche world in a article on purchasing a 968 !

Getting back on topic...[8|]

I'd love a list of approved specialists on this forum. But - it will never happen.

Just imagine that I recommend a specialist to you, he checks a car for you and misses something. It could be nothing serious, but you'll forever blame the Club. If it was a major error, you'd probably sue.

The TIPEC forum has a "dealers, praise or shame" section. Funnily enough, if you praise a company there's no guarantee that you're not the guy's best mate, and if you try and criticise then you are threatened with legal action.......It's about as impartial as a Top Gear feature on the latest Boxster [&:]

To be honest, I'd not trust a ppi from anyone except the guy who looks after my car, and possibly a couple of others who are regularly mentioned on this forum. But - for every person who swears by an indie there will be another who would never go there again.

I didn't know where you are in the country, but these cars come effectively pre-inspected so you could use the inspection costs to cover travel. There aren't enough decent cars on the market at any one time to be able to afford to rule them out on location IMO, unless you aren't in a rush.

Andrew's 968 is a decent one I believe, but I just don't see the point in paying the premium for a 968 when it's basically just a 944 S2 with a facelift and they are all plenty old enough to be ruined by now.
