Little Annoyance - Any ideas?

Afternoon all

I have what seems like a little stone rattling up and down somewhere. When you accelerate it makes it's way backwards then when you brake it makes it's way forward again. It sounds like it's inside the n/s sill but parking up a hill then looking in the b pillar reveals nothing! I thought it must be inside the door then, so I took the door card off to reveal nothing in there either!

Where else could such a thing be lurking? It def sounds like n/s but I have however checked o/s sill and door and found nothing either. Puzzled! [&:]

I also have a tip tip tap noise which sometimes sounds like the windscreen creaking slightly or other times seems to be behind the dash. This again is mostly n/s but can manifest itself to sound o/s or both at the same time. This is also driving me to distraction! Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!

A clip on one of the break lines or fuel lines that run under the car on that side? Could be rattling up and down the pipe?

I have a similar rattle and have checked everywhere under the car. the only thing left is the inner tube within the exhaust which may have become lose

Inner sill? good luck getting to it if it is ;p

Had some of noise vertriloquism in my car; I had a squeak that really sounded like it was coming from the headlining near the sunvisors when sat in the drivers seat, but the OH identified it coming from the gearstick. The gaiter was rubbing against itsself.

One of a collection of intermittent noises that seem to come and go at random.

I know the feeling! These are the last 2 noises/rattles I have though after my painstaking mission to eradicate them all!

Will check the fuel/brake lines next.

Could be a stone inside the chassis rail. Look under the car there are two rails running along from front to juswt under halfway along the floor.

That's what Alasdair suggested too. Are these captive or can I get into them and check?

Tippy tappy rattle found and cured! Quite by chance I noticed that the ignition barrel multi-plug housing was able to move a little and has therefore been chattering away against the barrel when moving. This has been fixed by the wonder of insulating tape!

I was convinced that my windscreen had been creaking ever since it was replaced as the noise could be heard at the corners of the screen and seemed to be from all around the screen at times. Thankfully I never went back and demanded it be re-fitted! [] Anyway, it now seems that I have a slight creak from my centre console when going over bumps, I think we can live with that! After all it's much quieter than the now cured one!

The other one described still eludes me. [&:] It will be found! I may be becoming (!) obsessive here, it is a 21 year old car after all!

Happy (er)

RATTLES.............................well known for driving a bloke nuts !
Got one on the 220 N/S somewhere............GRRRR !

My dash rattles but I sorted it with a piece of rubber from an old boot seal stuffed in between the screen and dash sorted it out....! I take it out when I show the car...![:D]

The rattle in your sill could be inside the car under the carpet perhaps. I seen this on a Cavalier before where a floor bung got dislodged and let the stone in....!

Rattles drive me nuts... []

Yes, could be. I'm going to have a look in about the boxes in the passenger footwell next and then the carpet might come out next!

This thing is only moving 6-12 inches tops and I also hear it when I go over speed bumps. I have found umpteen things it could have been and yet the noise is still there! Grrrr!

I found a stone on a seat runner, lots of stones in the plastic floor pan covers and an old mirror gasket inside my door. None of them were guilty!
