Living with a dog-leg box...

OK... I made my first mistake with it, fortunately on the edge of the block paviours, into a pit of pea-shingle - no damage done but for spinning wheels, pea-shingle everywhere and a lot of sweeping up!

So how does everyone else get on with/remember reverse is where first should be?

I'm currently thinking of wiring a "Warning, you're in reverse dummy" sounder into the reversing lights.

I asked the question of one turbo owner - he suggested I look at how many other turbos have battered back bumpers!

So how do you remember? Amusing anecdotes from not remembering? And suggestions for ensuring I don't make that mistake again?!

Tref.

Not guilty!!

Only popped into reverse a few times at traffic lights. Saw the face of fear in the driver behind me to realise. Tbh I pop my daily Audi into reverse over first more often. Used to 3 series boxes for the last 5 years over A4

The worst bit Tref is when you want to whack it into third and go right across the gate and try to engage first by mistake. It is better to lose a second taking care to get the lever in the right place (the detent on the selector fork is easily overridden) than hook first and damage the baulk ring so you can't engage first gear any more.

I own both a 924S with standard box and 924 Turbo with dogleg. My biggest problem is trying to drive the 'S' off in second. I seldom make the other mistake..... Why? because I do a far greater mileage in the Turbo.
