Llumar PPF for GT4

Hi Guys

My GT4 has arrived at OPC - i am waiting for March and new Reg for handover & registration

I am going with a PPF on the full front, side air intakes and scoops, plus full roof and rear Bumper £££ ;(

The company i intend to use have Xpel and a company called Llumar available - they are 1 of only 2 licensed distributors in UK, one in Harrogate. ;)

They invited me down to look at both the Llumar and the Xpel - The Llumar has virtually zero Orange peel effect and a deeper glossier look, unlike the Xpel - i was quite surprised in the orange peel effect of the Xpel. It has the same thickness as Xpel but needs half the adhesive. It is slightly more expensive and is manufactured by the company unlike Xpel who buy in raw material ...

Oh - it also carries the same 10 Year Warranty ... thought you might appreciate me sharing the info ...!

Andrew

gets bad reviews so a no go for me on it. xpel or Suntek all the way it seems, I went xpel and you cannot see any orange peel once on.

xpel is also self healing the Llumar once marked always looks marked.

Mine is getting xpel fitted to it tomorrow, plus it's had a full detail to get rid of any blemish in the paint

almost forgot I had it ceramic coated as well, plus the brakes, wheels and full trim

Mr D - That is not correct regarding the self healing properties ... I took a wire brush to a Llumar panel and scraped for 20 seconds only to be turned back to normal in 3 seconds with a hair dryer. It is way better than Xpel for Orange peel - where did you see the bad reviews by the way ..? Would be interested to read them ... Thanks - Andrew

Mr D - I think most internet chatter is very old, around 10 years old, referring to old products ... I was very lucky and did a "blind tasting" and saw with my own eyes the same colour panel covered in Xpel and Llumar, after all they offer both - the Xpel definately looked orange peel and when looking at a ceiling light reflection you could clearly see that the light was not being refracted back clearly, just like paintwork that needs a machine polish, would be the best way i could describe it. The Llumar panel carried more depth of shine and looked like it had been machine polished when you looked at the same ceiling light, you could clearly pick out the edges and details of the light but with the Xpel the light was just a bit blurred and undefined - with a Guards Red car it needs to be as close to transparent as possible for me to be happy. The guy said that if you have a black or grey car the Xpel is fine but on lighter cars the Llumar is better. They are both self healing, as i said on last post - the fitter gave me a wire brush and told me to mark the surface, i did so - he told me to do it harder until it looked like the bottom of an old washing up bowl - he then merely flashed over it with the hair dryer and it was as good as new, i was amazed! I think most people will go for Xpel as its the most readily available but not as good as the Llumar if you see the two side by side ... Which i guess unless you live in the north east you won't get that opportunity! I will try and get more details tomorrow ... Andrew

Heres a You tube Link showing briefly the Self Healing Properties of Llumar - I probably scratched 10 times worse than that ...!

Mr D - For your information Llumar is owned by the Eastman/Kodak Company who know a thing or two about "Films" and "plastics" they are the only company in the World that make and manufacture and develop all of the PPF components in house; Film, adhesive etc ... The Suntek brand that you referred to is actually supplied and manufactured by Llumar and is one of their products. On the other side is Xpel which is produced by the Mitsubishi company that uses different suppliers for each component. The Llumar PPF is around a year or two old and has full Self healing properties. It has the most "clarity" of any PPF and gives the most depth of shine for one reason it uses 50% less adhesive to bond than Xpel yet carries the same protection to stone chips ... Xpel for sure is the most recognised and available brand and is very, very good but i would also recommend seeing Llumar for yourself if anyone is thinking about putting a PPF on their car and especially if its a light colour ...!

Very interested on the fitting on your car. I have had it fitted and the front bumper looks like it comes from 3 pieces, the edges do not butt up

together and the bubbles are all over the bonnet and wings.

Just committed to having the XPEL ultimate fitted to my newly painted front end on my 911. Basically front bumper, bonnet, lights, front wings, mirrors and managed to get the doors done as well. Read very positive reviews about Xpel and I'm having it fitted by Xpel Herts. What's the sort of average cost people have paid for this work, supplied and fitted? Also what does the term "BRA" actually mean? Clean answers only please!! :)

Just picked up the GT4 and seen the Llumar PPF in the flesh for the first time ... I can honestly, hand on heart say its incredible and totally invisible and gives a wonderful deep lustre to the paintwork of my Guards Red car in comparison to the orange peel look and clarity of the Xpel ... Very pleased indeed with Reep Detailing, Knaresbrough - Not cheap but total Perfectionists and good value all considered ...

This thread is no good without pictures :ROFLMAO:

Your description certainly sounds as though the end result is better than some I have seen.

There are only 2 Certified Lllumar Installers and suppliers in Uk - so i doubt you have seen a poor Llumar installation but like with all PPF, fitting is key - Reep are such perfectionists that they have a temperature and humidity controlled bay that they spray the floor with water and keep the humidity high to make it very difficult for air born particles to rise and circulate and contaminate PPF ... Total Perfectionists and it shows in the finished Product ... Totally Invisible!

I meant some of the lesser products. I had a friend who had his Cayman wrapped in the company car park. I think that says it all 😂

I would heartily recommend Myles and the Team for any PPF work, Gtechniq or Swissvax Detailing ... If you life up North!
