LN Engineering - IMS bearing, uk supplier

gazrawly

New member
I recently purchased an 02 986 and would like to purchase both the LN ceramic IMS bearing and tool to remove the old bearing/install the new bearing. Is there a UK supplier you would recommend for purchasing this item?

Thanks,
Gaz

As far as Im aware you only get a warranty on the bearing if its been installed by an approved supplier. Autofarm and RPM technik (near tring in herts) are two suppliers that come to mind. Before you launch into buying the kit , check to make sure your engine is compatable with the retro fit as there are at least three different versions of IMS bearing , not all can be retro fitted in situ.

I did both our Boxster and our 996 at Autofarm, makes great sense to do the RMS and clutch at the same time, so save a little more for those parts, plus possible dual mass etc, but these are bills coming your way at some point anyway. I am really pleased we did it.

Thanks, I will give Autofarm a call shortly.

Berty, I was under the impression that the M96 built from 97 - 04(?) will have a choice of two bearings, the single and dual row. It's not guaranteed, but the engine in the 2002 will most likely have the single row bearing. I think it's the 987 that has the enlarged bearing that cannot be changed without dismantling the engine.

I was considering fitting the IMS guardian but it makes more sense to just replace the bearing. The dual mass was fitted not so long ago, but would replace the clutch while I am there.

There were also two different types of cam chain designs on the 986 , I think I recall reading that the earlier design of cam chain requires changing to the later type to take the retro fit kit. The early 987 use the M96 engine with a few enhancements, the later (2007 onwards) use the m97 engine with bigger IMS beraing and carrier (which you shouldnt need to replace) It all on the LN engineering website.
