Loan Car - Boxster S

Have been loaned a boxster S tip whilst my Cayenne is at the OPC having a software upgrade...
Just a few thoughts:

Best handling car I have ever driven (beats the 993 in my opinion - not driven a 996).
Would get a manual if i purchased one - tip doesn't suit the car on rural roads.
Road noise and wind noise is much much much worse than my old SLK - but the rest of the car more than makes up for it.
Have now realised why boxster owners usually have large smiles on their faces!

what tyres has it got on it?

idon't find my conti sports are too bad for road noise. but i've been in someone elses with pilots on and the noise was awful.

i have to say after driving a Boxster i find the silence of the Cayenne a little un-nerving but soon get used to it.[8D]

Pilots - so that could explain it.
Have found the solution- floor the accelerator - then the beautiful warble of six cylinders drowns out the road noise!

I find it to be the opposite with Conti's making more noise than Pilot's albeit it is 3 years since I had them (Pilots).

JCB..

The beauty of the Boxster (S), especially with standard suspension and 17" wheels, is that it seems to be perfectly balanced and suited to the very variable British roads.

Road and tyre noise shouldn't be too intrusive, although it will be more significant than an SLK, because it's a sports car.

My brother has a 320SLK and I have to say the ride / handling compared to my "S" on 18" Carrera's is absolute crap [] I have Pilots on current car and don't find them any noisier than my previous "S" fitted with Conti's.

When I was loaned a 996 Coupe for a week / 500 miles the first thing that struck me was how noisey the tyres were compared to my convertable Boxster! which I have always found to be one of the softest and quietest compared to any of the competition Merc,BMW,Lotus, and the 996.

Boxster S loan car? 996 loan car? Where do you guys get your cars serviced?

My Boxster is at the doctors having the front end repaired (Ouch! Bent my Boxster thread) and OPC Cambridge have loaned me a Pug 106 - no air con, no central locking, no leccy windows - nowt!

Dapster with your track record you are lucky it wasn't a base Smart car:ROFLMAO: My loaner came from PCGB who did the replacement warranty hood job, and not from my now EX- OPC AFN Chiswick who didn't want to replace the hood yet alone ever lend me a car []

Aww! My sides are splitting![:D][;)]

The entire OPC are in the Seychelles for a week courtesy of my insurance company so maybe they didn't get a chance to sort me out a 996 for the 3 weeks the car is off the road - believe me driving a bottom of the range 106 in weather like this with all the Boxsters, 996's, (...and TT's, SLK's, Z3's and S2000's..) around is a bleedin nightmare!

See all the gorey details here.

Bent my Boxster

Basically it's 1 week for the insurance co and the OPC to get their act together, 1 week to order the parts and do the repairs, and seemingly another week for the paint to bake dry (and presumeably half of that week to add up all the numbers on the invoice).
