Chaps -my lad off to Preston uni in September. (Hooray![;)]) No parking available for his car but would be useful to have it available locally -any suggestions/spare drive space for Pug 206??

Hi Mac n Sue! -he doesn't know yet except it will be within 5-10mins walk from the uni!

Will prob be delivering him early Sep so will be in touch to at least scrounge a cuppa!![:D]

Intend to stay in the area a few days if weather half decent.......[8|]

Melv,

Bit far to Freshfield from Preston but there's a big beach at Southport.[:)]
Hope you intend sending him on an acclimatisation course so he can cope with us Northerners-also virtually all the students I know who go to UCLAN end up working in bars.
(Peter Bull works at UCLAN)

There is very little parking for free anywhere near UCLAN. (Mac's grandaughter was there for four years so we have first hand knowledge.) For the first two years she travelled by train or grandad's car to home in Royal Wootton Bassett and as most students do relied on her own feet to get around the centre of Preston. It is very compact. When she took her own car the only parking places ever available were on a tiny street called Grafton Street off Fishergate.

You are more than welcome at our place any time as you well know. If our spare bedroom is free you are also more than welcome to stay here if you wish.

Thanx for feedback chaps and chappesses

As you probably realize Sue, we'll have our bedroom with us but thanx for the offer!!

Hi Melv

I work at the UCLAN - we can chat about this at the weekend if you like. I may be able to help.

Thanx for offer Peter -regret will miss you this w/e -St Lucia calls[;)]........have sent apologies to Nick -hope it all goes well....

If anybody knows about UCLAN parking, it's Peter with the insider knowledge and Mac and Sue with the real life student experience! The forum is a powerful tool!

Melv, I work in Preston City Centre and a lot of the central parking is tightly regulated and parking near the Uni is at a premium generally.

We only live 4 miles or so from the centre of Preston and have space on the drive for a Peugeot 206 for a few days while your son finds his feet but I'm afraid I can't offer a permanent solution. He may be better without the car initially whilst seeing which way the land lies - this will depend on which Hall he ends up in I suspect- some have no parking at all.

If he finds friends in private rented accommodation once he's up, there is plenty of on street parking without restriction in areas that students live so he could end up leaving it outside a mate's house. At least someone can keep an eye out for him. As a trainee solicitor I used to have relatively nice motors as did some of my friends and we never had any security issues leaving cars on street outside our humble terraced houses.

Thanx for offer and inside inforamtion Rob, I'll pass it on! -in all likelihood he's going to SORN it from Sep. and find his feet in Preston -least it's a city based Uni! He's fit and he's doing a degree in outdoor leadership so walking won't hurt[:)]

When I did my final year at Preston the 'Poly House' we rented had off street parking behind six foot gates. Just big enough for my Mini Clubman.

'Poly House' were called that as at the time (1984) it was a polytechnic and the poly owned them. If UCLAN still have these houses dotted around he maybe able to arrange with the occupants to park it there.

If he leaves the car at home think how much money you will save Mel on petrol.

Cheers,

Message to myself:- I must remember to write down everything twice so that at least it gets done once.[:)][:)]
