Locking/Alarm problem

John Ware

New member
Over the past couple of weeks, the car has started to behave as if it's going to sleep when it's locked.

ie. It always locks with the remote but needs "waking up" with the key in the lock before the remote works to deactivate the alarm, as if it's been parked for a week or so, even if it's only been parked for half an hour.

Any ideas? Is it a quick reset on a PIWIS or something more £££?

Are the interior lights working properly? ie, Do they come on when you unlock the car with the remote, and fade off a short while after closing the door? If not, the alarm may have slipped into energy-saving transit mode and needs initialising with a Porsche tester. I've seen it happen a couple of times before.

If that isn't the case, it does sound like the 5-day load cutoff is throwing a bit of a wobbly. I would try disconnecting the battery for a minute or two to reset the alarm. Don't forget to switch the ignition on (but don't start the engine), turn off any loads (radio, aircon, etc) before you disconnect the negative terminal. Also, make sure you have the radio/navigation codes!

Thanks, Richard.

It seems like it's the latter and it's an intermittent fault. I've popped the battery off for a couple of minutes so we'll see over the next few times I take her out....

Did it again today. I had to lock it with the key. I went out an hour later and it unlocked and locked normally with the remote.

?????

When it doesn't lock/unlock with the remote, is the light on the remote rapid-flashing?

If you have a spare key, you could try using that one to lock/unlock it remotely when your normal key fails.

Changing the subject slightly if you do not have the codes for the pcm2 where would I get hold of them
Or would opc re-install new ones

What do you mean "slightly"? [:D] [:D]

PCM2 doesn't have user-entry security codes. The PCM2 unit has an inbuilt security number. This number is entered into the DME (engine control module) at the factory, or by using a Porsche tester. When you switch on the ignition, the PCM and DME agree that the number matches, and the PCM will burst into life.

Edit: Sorry - got that ar$e-about-face. It is the DME security code which is entered into the PCM2 unit..
