Locking Cayman on a ferry journey at sea.

Help please.

Soon, I shall be taking my Cayman R on a ferry journey to the Isle of Man.

What is the correct procedure with the central locking and alarm system when leaving the car on the car deck for the journey at sea.

I don't want my alarm to be activated by the movement of the ship either when docking or at sea.

Hi Brian, I went on a number of ferries with my 987 Cayman R and didn't have any issues with locking as normal. Not tried with the 981.

Cheers, Colin

Hi Brian

On 981 versions it's one click of the key fob to lock the car as normal but a second press within 2 seconds locks the car but disables alarm for ferry / car on train scenarios. The second click on the key fob gives a single long pulse on the car indicators to signify this mode of locking has been enabled.

Not sure if that's the same on the Cayman R but worth a try.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks guys that's helpful.

I did read in the owner's manual about the double click on the key fob. My OPC also suggested this, but I thought I'd also check with the forum.

Just one other question, after the car is locked with the double click, and the indicators long pulse, does the red light on the dash still flash as normal?

I'll do a test in my garage first. I don't want any worries on the Ferry.

The double click has been the method since Gen1 Cayman, I used it several times on overnight crossings Hull - Rotterdam and Zeebrugge on my Gen1 S never had a problem in using it. Will be using it again this summer on the Gen2.

You will also see the internal door light come on after a couple of seconds, stays on for about 5 secs, goes out, then the dashboard led starts to flash.

I always lock mine like this in my garage, to save battery life.

Tested the double locking sequence several times in garage. Everything seems to be working exactly as per your comments.

Thanks to you all for your very helpful advice.

And if you have a tracker fitted, don't forget to inform them so it doesn't register movement without ignition on & trigger a false alarm......

Thanks, I have already added Vodafone Automotive to my phone contacts list. I'll be phoning them on the morning of the ferry trip.

I appreciate the helpful response from all of you.

Brian
