Locking doors

Guest

New member
HI,

I tried to lock the doors today with the key and had no luck.
The key turns but it will not lock.
I can lock them ok from inside, and open them with the red button or by
turning the lock.

strange.

Pls help

Sounds like micro switch failure or maybe its become dislocated from it mounting. Its a piddly little thing that clips onto the side of the lock barrel.
Does the other door work?
To get to the switches is a door pannel off job but otherwise fairly simple.

You forgot to mention its a graze hand job but I think you are right about the micro switch had the same fault on my car after taking the handle off to do some work on the door

Hi thanks.
But both my doors will not open with the key.
Surely both micro switches cant go faulty?

Both Micro switches are interconnected with each other with power feed and ground lines so one effects the other
A 16amp Fuse controls the central locking number 2 clean that first before you have a look at the micro switches

Thanks,
If the red button opens the doors, does that mean the the fuse is ok?
THe fuse box cover is missing, any ideas which fuse it is pls?

thanks

The fuse is marked number 2 which is the 5th fuse from the rear side of the fuse box.
and yes it should mean the fuse is ok if the doors locks open when the red button is pushed but I`ve had a few faults traced back to just a corroded fuse
Sorry I could not be of any more help

Out of interest did you sort the locking problem you had... was it the micro swicthes... I'm asking beacause I have lived with my passenger side door not operating the central locking, which I believe is down to an issue with the switch, but removing the handle and having a quick look, I didn't fully understand how the switch fixed to the handle... So I just put it back together and carried on fixing my electric window...

The switch just clipson to the handle, it can be prized using a screwdriver and the cable is held in place with a small clamp.

Im taking it for a service next week and will get the mechanic to check it out.
I'll let u know

Apparently, you use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the microswitch off the lock mechanism (so says Bentley). 'Installation is the reverse of removal', as they say.

John, I find some of these instructions hilarious, I wish someone could post pictures of 'prising back on with a small screwdriver!'[:D]

Alan

I think that it is more a case of 'prising back on with a (small) hammer'.

I have never had to fix my central locking, so.....

Thanks for this... I guess I'll have to try a little harder this weekend providing is not raining... as both Porsches have to live outside as there's a mini in the garage..?? [:'(]

No, it really is as easy as it sounds for a change, it just snaps back into position. I've got a spare switch in the garage, I'll post a piccie of it when I get the chance. It will all become clear then!

OK... Taken the door to pieces again... and it is the micro swicth on my car which is stopping the passanger lock from operating teh central locking,... The little switch peg, is just broken...

so door now staying in bits until I get a new one... any ideas on price and availability... I can't find them on line, so am going to have to wait until I can ring round tomorrow...

Try Simon Butterworth at Porsch-a-part, I think I paid about £20 off the top of my head for a second hand one. A new one from the OPC was IRO £60!!

BTW, the 'actuation finger' on the switch is nothing more than a little ridge 2mm high!!

Sorted. it was the microswitch.

However still cant lock the doors from passenger side, and the centre switch will not lock the doors, and only opens them if the passenger side is locked.

strange..............

But i'm happier now..
