Locking wheel nut problem

sbloxxy

New member
Just been to get a couple of new tyres fitted to my 964, only to discover that I can't remove the locking wheel nuts. They're supposed to work by removing a black cap which reveals a key slot. I've got the key - which is marked 'Porsche' - but the key just turns and doesn't seem to release anything. Any idea on how this system works? Any advice gratefully received.

Stephen,

According to the Driver's Manual:

To remove the wheel nut lock, take off the plastic cap, insert the key into the lock as far as it will go, turn approx 30 degrees to the left, and remove the sleeve with the key.

Any help????

Regards

Dave

Dave,
Thanks for that - just popped outside and yes it works. Unfortunately my owners manual is in french - must get a replacement. Now that they are off, I can see that they're not as free as they should be so I'll try some WD 40 in the morning. LEast I can get my new tyres on.
Thanks again,
Steve.

Steve -replace those locking wheel nuts -one day they won't work....there are far better ones now available.

Yes that was a bit of a wake up call - I'd dread to think of the grief if I'd had a puncture while out one night. The chaps who fitted the new tyres said that they get loads of problems with locking wheel nuts this time of year, simply because of the salt on the roads. I've got a new set on order...
