Long shot but i'll give it a go...

I think you can sleep easy at night Paul, your TB's are safe!!

I have the option of achieving a similar rear end stiffness than the M030 TB / std KW rear coil over by uprating the rear coil over springs to KW's 'Club Sport' set up which Promax are looking into for me. I'm basically trying to emulate the M030 TB / standard KW set up that Fen and Paul Hilux rave on about so much. I'd hate to spend all this money and end up whishing i'd done something else. I'd rather my rear end be too stiff than too soft!

Spring rates and effective rates have always been something I can't get my head around but it makes sense to me that the effective rate is calculated by combining the torsion bar rating and the coilover spring rating. I know Andy and Roger will be able to get their heads around it and fit the correct stiffer spring to compensate for your weaker torsion bar.

I had relaxed about it since I was told that the rear coilover basically does all the work with the TB's only really start to contribute towards the extremities of the suspension travel. If this is the case then I suppose it wont matter, however with me not upgrading my ARB's I imagine i'd want that extra umph the TB's provide when cornering hard on track. I'd rather use the thinnest/weakest ARB I can get away with preferring to react body roll via the main suspension. But with a road car with a relatively high centre of gravity I don't think you can get away without a substantial ARB.

Hi Scott,

If you still need some used rear torsion bars (89 951), we have some. Give Andy E a call. Our project car is using rear coil overs only - so the torsion bars will not be required.

Are you planning on any more track days soon? Have a good day!

Regards,
Andrew

Cheers i'll give him a call. I would like to do a track day as soon as i've fitted the KW but my weekends are looking quite booked up from May through to August so I might have to look to one of the evening events, but they don't seem particularly good value for money. Hopefully i can snatch an event at some point. I fancy another go at Bedford and one of the big tracks this year.

Hold out for Goldtrack late summer evenings at Silverstone Scott, they are definitely good value. I'm on their email list and will give you the heads up when they announce dates. Who knows I may even be able to afford KW's myself by then [8|]

Are you back to your original plan of fitting the beefier torsion bars then?

Cheers Paul, i'll appreciate the heads up. Unfortunately the TB's Andrew is referring to were not the M030's so I guess they'll be the same as mine - if I'm reading the PET correctly that is. It says 24mm TB for S2 and 25.5mm for Turbo 944/944S2/M030/031. SO i'm not sure whether to read that as 25.5mm for the turbo and other models M030 or 25.5mm for all models M030. There doesn't seem to be any reference to different TB diameters for the different models of turbo. I'm actually waiting for KW to get back to Promax regarding the 'clubsport' springs but they are living upto their reputation of being a bit slow to respond to queries. I like the sound of 'club sport' springs!

I got my Racers Edge top mounts and Rennbay suspension geometry correction kit the other day from the states and I may have sourced some later turbo hubs as well. Unfortunately i've had to push back the installation by one week as the guy from Hartec who fits the wishbone ball joints is on holiday, so i'll have to wait that little bit longer[&o] I must admit i'm getting very excited now April is just round the corner!

I wanted to ask you guys about the racing version of the Rennbay kit, are any of you guys fitting this since it seems like it requires modification of the hub. Scott the geometry correction kit would allow for the car to run seriously low, can we expect to see one well on the deck 951 from your stable?

I'm not planning on running my car any lower than the KW kit requires, which I believe will lower the car 30 - 35mm which is quite alot for a road car. The Rennbay race kit not only has the extended length pin but also increases the diameter of the pin to 19mm from 17mm, and you are right, it requires the hole the pin locates to to be drilled out to 19mm. Like John Sims I have also specced the uprated bushes which are phospher bronze instead of the plastic ones, so with my top mounts i'm expecting a harsher ride but a much more focussed front end. I'm fully expecting the ride and handling to be a completely different league and much improved braking as well.
