It seems such a shame to hide it in an engine bay.

For thems as what don't know, I am having issues with leaking boost. I eventually established that the leak was around the throttle butterfly shaft.

Talking to Simon (SPS), at the Reading meet before Christmas, Simon agreed to produce a refurbished exchange throttle body for me. And here it is! Refurbished, you think of as being clean with new seals; but this is like new. [:)]

The only trouble now is, because it is exchange, can't sit and fondle it I have to go and swap it for the old one. [:D]

I wonder what else I could have refurbished? [8|]
 
There are thems what think that the standard one is too small along with some other bits and pieces, but that looks just like a bought one.

Thank you Mr Mc' From an award winner such as yourself that is high praise indeed. I have to admit to being a little unhappy with the shadows in the first shot which prompted the second.

I fear I may be now pushing the limits of my four flash guns (two of which are 20 years old) and could have to invest in some "proper" studio lighting.

How on earth do you take pics like that? Why is there no background, did you Photoshop it out or is it some special surface?
 
On a similar area of the car - does anyone know if new nipples are available for the throttle cable, mine appears to have stretched beyond the limit of adjustment but is fine otherwise a new nipple would allow it to be shortened.

John, I know we have been having a bit of banter in one or two threads, but serious mate, that is very tasty. What was the cost saving over a new O.P.C. supplied part?
I have seen a couple of references to your boost leak, here's hoping that, after what must have been a fairly substantial oultlay, it finally sorts the problem out. I know you will keep us posted. Best of luck.

No post processing, they are as they came out of the camera. It is all down to lighting.

Obviously I could tell you how I did it, but then I would have to kill you.

No idea. Simon gave me a figure that I thought was very reasonable so I asked him to go ahead.

I had intended to refurbish my own body but the cost of parts, potential agro, and possible down time made Simon's option far more appealing. It was a straight swap old one off, new one on.

My only frustration was, after finishing the job, I found a long shaft bobble ended allen key. It would have made a fiddly job far easier.

I haven't pressurised the inlet tract yet. I thought it would be far better just to bask in the shininess of it all. [:)]
 
I have not asked the OPC directly, but I think the price for a new one is around £500.00 +VAT...!
 
Off the top of my head that OPC retail price is accurate.

I would say at least 80% of 944 turbo's out there are suffering from a vaccuum/boost leak at the throttle body spindle.

In chronic cases, especially modified cars, you can find that the throttle switch/pot cover gets blown off, or the throttle switch/pot fails due to oil contamination blown in there via the leaks.

Jon's comments have reminded me of more good news:-

Since I fitted the new turbo, and oil catch tank, my inlet tract is lovely and dry and free from oil. [:)]
