A big thank you to Richard who forwarded me the info for removing and refitting a new alternator.[]
Whilst i feel i can attempt some things on the car, i felt sure that after being given the instructions it was definately possible. Once the alternator was removed and tested it was clear a refurb was required. After this the most difficult part to the refitting was getting the new belt in place, even after releasing the tensioner. What was really nice was that after refitting the alternator all those nasty warning lights disappeared without the need for specialist equipment or a visit to Porsche. [] With a replacent battery under warranty the output now across the battery with the car running is 14.35 volts.
What i was really surprised at is that the whole job has only cost £133 for alternator and £12 for surpentine/drive belt. Wonder what Porsche would have charged!!! [:-] Another surprise is that i would not have been able to remove the belt on my 944 as i believe a special tool is required for tensioning. These automatic tensioners obviously make the job much easier, surprising as it is a far more expensive car.
Anyway, back on the road enjoying life. Thanks to all who contributed to past posts and once again to you Richard for the info [][][]
