Looking at a 996 911 and Good Advice!!

Sounds like the consumate 911 - a nice 3.6 'facelift' C2 Coupe manual with a few sensible options (PSE[8D]).

With a good inspection and warranty (ideally Porsche) and a bit more off the price, it looks attractive.

At the moment I've been offered £28k for my 987 with nothing off the 996 price. My car only has 7300 miles from when I bought it new for £36k in Aug 05. I'm assuming the Porsche OPC warranty would be on top. Is this a good deal? Doesn't feel like it!

There was a lot it can depend on, Service history, no of owners, general condition, take it to the nearest OPC and get the check done on it they will tell you what is what, you can even go aound the car while they do the inspection. I looked at a 993 at RSJ the car was not as good as described when i got there.

Good luck worth waiting for a good one.

No, that doesn't sound great.

Best to sell your 987 for a bit more, privately, if you can - then negotiate hard on a cash purchase.

I am really worried about buying a car with accident damage as I've been bitten in the past with used cars.

How do you know its had accident damage... 996's bought privately with the Porsche warrenty are probably a better deal financially, but you can't trade you car in for it ?

I would walk away from any car with declared accident damage.... there are many out there in the market place without any damage, probably with less miles on.

Sorry guys, I don't mean that this one has accident damage, I just mean that I'm worried about any used Porsche in this way. I bought an approved used Mercedes only to find it had one engine mount and welds underneath due to accident damage!

If you do buy any second hand 911 I would make sure you get a full check done on it first.
I bought a car from this garage and it has serverd me well for 2yrs. However I made the mistake of not getting an inspection and my first service (when I wanted to get a porsche extended warranty) cost me 3K.

I dont want to put this garage down in particular, but where ever I get my next 911 from i'll definately get an independent check done first.

A good friend of mine has a 2002 faclift model for sale at present. Sliver with Black interior, very well spec'ed with sata nav,Tiptronic PSR sunroof, 18" carrera alloys, litronic lights and lots more extras. Car is in St albans area. If you are interested I can put you in touch. Think he is looking for around 38K ish need to check

I went to have a look at that car last month. It's quite a nice spec but it's a little bit scruffy around the edges, I believe it's also an ex-lease car. I decided to leave it.
