Looking at boxster

Went to look at few boxsters this weekend. All around the 2000/2001 mark. Some had the newer interior ie alu door catches but with 4 spoke steering wheel, is this normal or some sought hybrid between phases. Also most did have quit a lot of stone chips on the front plastic bumper, i guess this is normal for a car of this age? Finally the best speced car had everything but aircon is this a big no no for resale as it would not really bother me?

Thanks again.

There are lots of alu look bits from independents and on ebay, so no surprise to see earlier cars wearing a few bits and bobs nowadays. Three spoke wheel came in around 2002 i think ?

Stone chips - yep you'll get loads of 'em, unless its a low miler thats only been used for the Sunday newspaper run. - a respray should be around £250, but chesk the wings and bonnet too as they are juts as vulnerable.

Air con ? - its desireable yes, but if you are not bothered, then there will be buyers who will be like minded when you come to sell. If its asecond car fo nice summer days with the top down then yo don't need it, but if you use the car everyday then i'd say look for one with A/C. Bear in mind that at 4-5 years old the air con rads, condensor etc will be getting ona bit so it might be more troiuble than its worth - if you find a car with air con, make sure it blows lots of cold air.

Air con = more weight and less HP where it's needed. [;)]

Not at an affordable price [:D] There has probably never been more used Boxsters out there than currently so if you want air con then walk away from the few on offer without.

As far as the 2.7 goes, there was a minor modification to the model range for the model year 2001. Cars of this spec (before options) got electric boot releases, the digital speedo output moved to the left dial and the 3 spoke steering wheel. It can be quite confusing because you could buy a model year 2001 as early as September 2000. Generally speaking, 2000 X plates will be the newer versions. Anything before an X plate will be the older version.

Know I'm being fusy but pref is a manual. Incidently are there any colour no no's I should be aware of, I have potentially widened my search to include Lapis, Ocean, Black and Grey. I think the blue looks more sporty but I always buy blue, also the black and grey are rarer.

I know its each to his own but whats the general concensous on colour/leather combos.

Only one colour for me matey - guards red! Looks stunning and waxes up a treat (Zymol) as the colour is deep enough to have that lovely wet look but doesn't look dirty too quickly. Silver and Seal Grey are very common in my neck of the woods. Mine is red with black leather interior and a black hood, a simple combination that really works in my opinion.

Having said all this though I saw a boxster recently in a new colour which I think is called Atlas Grey - quite dark and metallic and seemingly changing from dark grey to bluish as the light changes. The model I saw had a red leather interior and was absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous (bet he says that about all the girls!) Might re-think my colour preferences when I order the next one.
