Looking at Cayenne 3.2 V6

Hi all,

I have been thinking of changing my 993 after 11 yrs of happy ownership, and i have noticed that early Cayennes look reasonable value.

I think the 3.2 V6 would be enough for me.

Tyre wear seems to be an issue, or so it would seem to me, reading various posts elsewhere.

Does the 3.2 run on 95 or 98 RON fuel?

Anything else i should be aware of?

Many thanks!

I think it would certainly run on that. The V8 has 98 recommended
but 95 if necessary. There are some nice V8's on the Autotrader website
between £10/15000 plus a number of V6's

Even an early diesel is only a year old, Derek, and hardly bargain basement. The V8 has proved a reliable engine (touch wood) and runs happily on 95RON. Tyre wear is average for a car of this size and weight, about 12 - 15k with most wear at the front, of course. You tend to get more for your money with the V8 as well, as they tended to be specced higher than the V6, often with air suspension, tiptronic, sunroof, bigger wheels etc.

Thank you for the replies.

I would love to keep the 993 but i cannot afford the 2 together.

The diesel would be fantastic but they are indeed too new and pricey at the moment.

I will be looking over the next couple of months, my guess is that my 993 should not depreciate that much in those couple of months (as it is so old), and that there should be enough supply of Cayennes naturally flowing back into the market.

From what is said above and what i have read elsewhere, i may as well look at the V8 (never owned a V8!) as they do seem to be better equipped.

Will keep you posted on progress.

Thank you all!

I have the 04 3.2 and it is a great car. It is quite well specced though including sunroof satnav etc. I havent found tyre wear too bad and am only just looking at having to do that having had the car for 2 1/2 years. current mileage 67000 but well looked after and serviced.

V8 seemed a bit of a beast for simple 'round town' driving and possibly too aggressive, especially in car parks!!

Whatever you choose it's got the right badge, good luck.

I have the 3.2V6 and its well spec'd, only thing I would have wanted was the memory seats over and above what it has. I would agree though with others that it can lack a bit of grunt / torque mid way around 60 - 80mph apart from that its good.

Economy is fine av 24 -25 on a steady 70 mph run, drive it like you stole it and its 19mpg - the average over the past year is 21mpg which is a mixture of town country and motorway. The V8 I believe is not that much different.

I have the steel suspension which is fine, can bang a little on aweful roads but its not a problem.

Only time I had tyre issue was running on Pirelli's didn't last at all. I have been running General Grabber UHP's for the current set which are an all season tyre and have found them brilliant, road holding - mileage etc and a lot cheaper. My logic in getting these was that they were nearly half the price of others, so if they lasted a little longer than the one I had I would be well in. They so far have lasted much longer than the others !! so really no tyre wear to speak of.

In saying all that if I was in the same situation again I would opt for the V8 just really for the extra grunt and torque.

You can run the V6 on both 95 or 98 Octane the 98 makes a difference but mainly in the wallet !

Good luck in your search

[:D]JP,

Had a Cayenne 3.2 for a couple of years, put 50K on it in that time - great and no problems, would still have it now if I weren't working overseas (PNG). Was even Cayenne RS for a while.

Drove the whole range at one time or another, they are all very good.

Main thing when buying - set your budget - look at all the options - make sure the car is well spec'd, well looked after and properly serviced, look for signs of "off roading" and heavy use/abuse.

3.2 runs with no problem on RON 95 or E5 (Unleaded with 5% ethanol blend).

Tyres - Never had an issue - 20K plus from a set (mostly Mway miles) on 20inch Sport design wheels. Some reports of typical 4X4 wear - inner edge of fronts going in as little as 10K, check the set up.

Take the usual care and you won't be disappointed with your purchase.
