Looking for 993 RS

Scott R

New member
Hello

I have just very recently joined the club hoping that this forum in particular could aid me in finding the right car. I am looking to buy a 993 RS Club Sport. I am aware of the current prices and have seen some cars for sale with various specialists in the UK and Europe, but i am keen to buy privately as this is normally a cheaper option and the cars are generally nicer examples.
Any info and advise that helps me find the right car greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Scott

With respect Scott, I doubt you will neccesarily find a 993 RS CS that much cheaper through a private sale these days......not to say you won't though!

The point being there are suprisingly few cars about, even fewer for sale that you tend not to get too much choice when buying, we see perhaps a couple of genuine cars come up for sale a year in the UK!

I was looking for a CS, bought a regular RS to use, sold that, just missing out on securing a CS, which meant I was without a Porsche for over a year until I found my current CS.
Do you want a standard or modified car.........PaulR had his sublime Manthey modded car up fo sale privately recently which was also a good deal.

Look out for converted non CS cars, there are quite a few cup's which have been turned into CS's after their racing career, I am often suprised to see these cars for sale and their description.
If you plan to do quite a high % of you mileage on the road, the regular RS is likely to be the better allround car.
Good luck with your search [:)]

Thanks for the advise its spot on.

I plan to avoid the converted race cars, but would not rule out a non cs car. As far as modified cars go i think i would have to take a view on what's been done but also would not rule this out. The cars use would be a 50/50 split between road and track use.

Anymore advise or possible cars for sale would be greatly appreciated.

You mentioned Paul R, is this car still for sale and if so where?

Thanks

Scott

Scott, I honestly do not know if Paul's car is still for sale. I sent him an email, mentioning this thread, so hopefully he will be along soon.

I am not aware of any outstanding cars for sale, the white one at Sean Lockyear and yellow one at Gmund seem to have sold... I was aware of both when I bought mine and passed...Thomas & H&S is probably your best bet www.germansportscars.de (you probably know this anyhow!)

Cars, do seem to be more in demand in Europe and Japan. Unfortunately the 993 CS seems to be greatly under appreciated in the UK, many find their way back overseas, particularly with current strength of the Euro.

I will keep searching, but may have to except that an easier prospect would be an RS (not club sport) although i appreciate this is no easy task in itself.

Going on hol's tomorrow so will have limited use of pc, but will check in from time to time.

Thanks

Scott

Scott, having owned both the, regular RS is the easier car to own especially if you are using it on the road.
The advantage of the CS is obviously the full cage, stiffens the car, adds security for track work and of course the rarity factor.
The rarity is perhaps better when you actually own one (well in theory anyway!)

I really wouldn't discount an honest regular RS, especially as you are looking at 50% road use and there should be more of a choice, although owners rarely seem to want to part with any 993RS these days, knowing how diffficult it would be to find a decent replacement.

Wise words again.

When i am back from hol's i will widen the search to include regular RS as ultimately this may be the better car for me practically.
Please let me know of any cars that may be for sale which i would not come accross in the usual places
Thanking you and anyone else in advance for any help, this is a serious purchase so no ones efforts will be wasted.
I may need a little help with factory spec options on my search but have a pretty good understanding.

Thanks

Scott

My only concerm with the RS v RS Clubsport rationale is this. Almost any of the time in town a Ford Focus is better than an RS --- we drive these cars as much for what they are and how they make us feel, as we do for how they perform.
Certainly the RHD/CS factor makes them very rare beasties, but maybe a little less likely to go to Europe than the 964RS CS which were all LHD ?
However, 7 only --- and 1 of them trashed ?

Chris, it will be lhd for me as there will be more choice and the matter of price premium for rhd in this country.
In terms of use, i will be lucky to use it properly more than once every two to three weeks due to buisness and family.

Cheers

Scott

Hi Paul, thanks for the Email, she is still for sale (although I've just insured her ready for a bit more tracktime!)

Have fun!.... After a few laps round silverstone with the noise and responsiveness of the car...do you honestly think she will still be for sale?? [:D]

Purchased my 993 RS in January (Thrilled!)[:)]. I decided against the RSR as I wanted to use the car for long distance fast continental driving and the odd track day. Even so, I'm working hard to improve the comfort of the seating for my wife who is feeling the harsh ride, with modified seat and lumbar pads from Southbound Trimmers. If this doesn't do the job (I'm ashamed to say) I may have to find an RS comfort (reclinable) or 993 Sports seat for the financial director. She is used to long distances in my track prepared Caterham Sprint and my '58 Lotus 11 (both of which she describes as more comfortable!) so its not as though she is a wimp[8|]

If you want an RSR for the Road I suggest you visit the Dentist first and check your fillings are secure!

Scott, I know of a 993RS coming up for sale. It's a comfort spec car, silver. If you want more details get in touch with Neil Dickens at The Hairpin Company. Cheers, Richard.

Hi Richard

Thanks for the tip, Paul Howells had also made me aware of this car and i have purchased it today and will be collecting it next Tuesday.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped with advise and info since i first made contact through this forum especially Paul Howells who has been extremely helpfull.
I am sure i will be in touch lots as i start my ownership and the process of getting the car in to a condition i am happy with.

Cheers

Scott

Richard,

[8D] Congrats - Enjoy the car! I bought mine (993 RS) 4 months ago and I'm over the moon. Plan to let it loose on the Isle of
Man trip, hope to stay in touch and let me know how your ownership progresses! I have had a shopping list of minor bits and pieces to sort out and gradually getting through them - just have to Swissvax the car now - not looking forward to that part as it sounds like hard work[:-]

p.s Southbound Trimmers seat and lumbar pads have just arrived - just the job, marriage saved . . .

How much each ?

If we are not independant, the forum's worth less.

If the well of goodwill for Porsche on here does not outweigh any pool of illwill, what the hell are Porsche planning ?

I sincerely hope this post stays, beacuse if it doesn't we will all worry that it's contents are correct. And there will be plenty of copies so it will be seen !

P.S. This post should probably now be deleted by me --- but I can't see the option ?
