New to Porsches allways been a Merc Man got a budget of about 2k what do u think i would be able to get me hands on for that , only want somthing to play around with and what would be the ideal spec colour dash etc etc

thanks for your help in advance

Paul

The ideal spec would be your favourite colour on a 944, and which-ever dash you prefer!

£2k will get you a rock solid base 2.5, or less than perfect S or S2 if you are lucky.

More important are all the usual issues with 944s, which all primarily come down to how well it has been maintained - and that doesn't necessarily mean a full service history, Porsche or otherwise.

Regards,

Tref.

If you fancy trying as far north as Glasgow, my 944 Lux is on sale around your price range. No reason I couldn't meet a buyer halfway or even deliver, so long as costs get covered.

Needs a couple of wee things sorting, but is a damned fine car already.

You could do a lot worse than that car - some expensive jobs done, & a nice interior

Unusual wheels - never seen a split rim design in that cup 2 style

Hi Paul,

My advice would be:

Only look at an 8-valve for that money and forget turbos.

Forget mileage, colour, spec, early history, number of owners etc. and buy on condition and recent history only.

Allow at least £1k for contingencies, no matter how good the car they will throw up an unexpected bill!

Look at lots, it's the only way to compare. It is easy to get suckered by a shiny red Porsche for £2k, but there can be huge differences in condition. Most people here would happily show you around their own cars with an honest eye, where are you?

Good luck!

I'm told the wheels are Speedlines from a 964 RS, but I've never confirmed that. They could do with a thorough clean and polish, but that's one of the things I never got round to before buying my Turbo. My time and effort goes into that car instead now, hence selling the Lux!

Paul's right, there will always be something that you want to spend money on after buying a Porsche. I'm on my third 944 variant and have spent between £500""£1K each time on "˜little things' that needed sorted.

Many thanks for your replies tbh not over keen on black but many thanks for your offer ill let you know how i get on

Paul

it's a very early one - more likely to be 163k

any mention of rust needs exploring

brown interior not to many people's taste

Looks good from the pics. As edh pointed out the mileage seems low for 8 owners and if it is genuine mileage I would expect all the service book/paperwork to be in order. However, high mileage is not necessarily a show-stopper.

Drive a few and get a feel for the car, if the steering, supension and gearbox feel tight, without excessive whine and clonks then it could be a steal. Other threads on this forum will show that rust can be expensive to get sorted on these cars.
