Looking for a 944S

Hi All,

I have just sold my lovely 83 944, it was in lovely condition having had a lot of time and money spent over the years I owned it. The plan was to spend a winter without a 944 due to business commitments and buy a very nice Turbo next year when I will have some more pennies.

However, I miss having a 944 around so am looking for a 944S to run until next year. Yes, I know it is not the most desirable 944 but I need a reasonably good car so a good S is more practical than a scruffy S2. Needless to say I want everything, a car with recent belts and possibly a clutch would be nice. Also, I really don't like the teledials on these as they seem to be set too far in giving the car a funny look from behind, so a bigger set of wheels would be nice. As I say I want everything but any nice car that's up together would suit. I might consider a 2.7 despite my curiosity for the 16V engine. I am sure with a remap, better exhaust and air filter the lost torque can be found.

Any body got one or know of one.

Rumour was that Rick Cannell may part with his "s". Worth a try, www.cannell.co.uk has all the details of the car.

Hi Colin,
Drop me a line I might be persuaded to part with mine!
It comes with D90s too!

Colin, if you get a good one you won't regret it. Not having driven an 8 valve I have no frame of reference but I wouldn't call the engine 'gutless'. It may not have as much real world torque as an 8 valve but there's much fun to be had. I've had mine since July '07 and I love it, especially now that the 'list of things to do' is getting smaller. Not there was anything major on it, mainly little niggles. I was after a nice 2.7ltr myself but these seem even rarer than the 'S'. I think that all the hoo-haa about the 16 valve head is a bit misplaced, if you look after it and take the advice of the experts it won't let you down. In my mind the 944S is a much misunderstood animal and consequently a bit of a bargain at the moment!
