Looking for a 993 C4/C4s - advice please

Hi there. My 1st post on this forum.

I am looking to buy a C4 or C4s and would like to get your advice on what are some particular things I should look out for. This will be my first Porsche, and I am careful about going in with my eyes wide open to learn as much as possible and understand what the weaknesses are that deserve special attention.

Many thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
Cheers -
Adrien

Also pay less attention miles , and more attention to condition and history, now is a good time to start looking for a 993....the more that is done to the the less you will have to spend later. and as Maurice said once you have found a car that you like get it inspected....depending on what comes back you can always use it to reduce the price.. and please be patient.

Thanks vm for the advice. I decided on the 4WD simply because it will be my daily driver and I'm looking for something that will give the added assurance rain/shine/snow including roadtrips down to the Alps during the winter season. I already track a modded mk1 MX5 for fun which is a little too uncompromising for daily use and is impossible to drive safely in snow.

How much is the problem of rust forming at the top corners of the doors? It seems to be a common problem on the 993's I've come across so far, and I'm always somewhat wary of RUST.

With regards to the independent inspection, can you make any recommendations for expert 993 "inspectors"? Perhaps being somewhat naive, but is this still necessary if buying from one of the Porsche specialists (a la Paragon/Autobahn/etc), or is it reasonable to expect that they might be trustworthy enough to have taken on the car to begin with? ... ...

Would still recommend inspection. I bought my C4 2 months ago from Autobahn. Very pleased with it but still had inspection and Autobahn were happy to remedy any faults. I used Peter Morgan who is a Porsche specialist and also produces buying guides as does Adrian Crawford. I probably went a bit OTT and bought both of those. What it did enable though was eliminating some prior to inspection so you are less likely to spend the fee on a bad un.

Are you sure you mean rust ? The black trim panels around the window frames frequently bubble up, but they are anodised aluminium TTBoMK and prone to do that with time.

The bodies proper rarely have rust problems (yet) except where damage has not been repaired to Porsche standards - thats something to add to the watch list, that the stamps are in the book for the body warranty .....

cheers, Maurice

If not rust, why would the paint bubble up? I wasn't aware that anodised aluminium would bubble/cause paint to bubble? I've had a look at one which seems in remarkably original condition: all chassis stickers/labels are in place, no signs of damage, clean specialist/MD history, receipts+paperwork, stone chips still evident. Upon physical inspection and the obvious paperwork, the car looks CLEAN and generally well looked after/not abused.

The wallet is getting nervous!!!
