A friend has decided he would like a 993 Tiptronic C2 standard body but car must be 100% genuine, below 40K miles and naturally full history and all bills. Coupe or Targa so guys any guideline on minimum and maximum he should budget for.

In an ideal world he would like to pay no more than 30K unless something exceptional turned up [;)]

ORIGINAL: Sundeep

there should be enough std tip's out there for less than 30k and a lot less

With less than 40K miles and preferably less than 30K! Also he would like one of the last few years production [&o]

Why restrict himself so much by looking for a low mileage car. It is no guarantee that it is going to be better than a car that has done average mileage and been properly looked after. I would be more worried about the last couple of years history rather than it had its oil changed at year 1.

Tips were not that popular so he is working in a smaller market. Buy on condition not a pre-determined wish list, that way you will get a good car. The reason I make this point is just look at the number of new 993 owners who have either bought on a budget or other limiting factor and you will see them posting a few months later about all the things that are wrong with the car. There is no better way to find the car you want by going out with an open mind and driving the thing. I occasionaly go and look at 993's that are advertised as full history, immaculate condition etc etc etc and as yet have not found one that lives up to the description and that includes alleged full OPC history.

Nothing wrong with a high milage car [:)]

Depends how many miles a year you want to do, but I think if you have a low milage one, you must spend all your time worrying about putting miles onto it.

A friend of mine has a 993 tip with 70,000 miles on it, drives it every day, no problem

I agree. It is not just the miles but the manner in which they are driven. Mine has 83k on the clock which seems quite high compared to some. However, the first 70k were added by the first owner who drove up and down the motorway every day and I would much rather that than 40k clocked up in start/stop City traffic.

Hendon Way Motors in North London (http://www.racecar.co.uk/hwmnet/stock.asp?Category=Porsche) have a 1997 PORSCHE 993 Coupe tiptronic IRIS BLUE 26,000 miles
Grey leather trim, air conditioning, third brake light, air bags, superb condition throughout with documented service history

They don't mention the price, and knowing HWM it won't be cheap, but I think they've been shopping the car around since last summer. Iris blue is a very nice colour. Just be ware that it turns purple when viewed in direct sunlight.

Without wanting to get myself sued [:D] I know enough about this particular outfit to say thanks but NO THANKS on behalf of my friend
