so any help with information on its history would be great
thanks john

Hello John,
The car that you ask after is a 1966 RHD Porsche 911 with Polo Red paint and Black interior. It's chassis number of 303567 should have the original engine number 903695. It left the production line in Zuffenhausen 1-2-66 and was delivered to AFN London on 7-3-66. It was sold by a garage/dealer named "Black & White" on 7-4-66 and the original registration number is shown as KUY 696 D.
I have no details as to whether it was owned by a PCGB member you need to contact the Register Secretary on 911@porscheclubgb.com for more information.
Does anyone know any details about the garage/dealer named "Black & White" ? where located? are they still in business?
I hope this information is helpful and that you might consider joining our happy band of members and owners at PCGB.

Hi Robin
many many thanks for this information i have tried to find out about the car on a few ocasions but never had much luck.
all i knew about it is that a guy went over to buy the car approx 25/30 years ago he tried to import the car as a parts car to lower the import duty but the customs said that they would need to remove the chassis number so the car could not be used . needless to say the guy wasnt haveing any of that so he just put the car into a shed .at some point he needed cash so he sold the car to a friend but he kept the engine .he figured out that if his friend restored the car he could buy it back when he had money.unfortunatly things did not work out that way .the guy restored the car (i use the word restored very loosly bodged would better discribe the terrible job he did ) anyway when he had the car done he tried to buy the engine but his friend would not sell it to him as he wanted to buy the car back. needless to say they fell out and didnt speak to each other for years .so the car sat in 1 shed while the engine sat in another for years .then about 3years ago the car was sold to a friend of mine he asked me to come and look at his latest restoration project .i was very suprised to see the porsche sitting in front of me .i told him if he was ever going to sell it to let me know as i was interested . as luck would have it i didnt have to long to wait as he rang me about a month after showing me the car we agreed a price and the car was mine . i have had it since 2009 but for 1 reason or another i havent got around to getting anything done with it .i did try getting information back then but cannot remember from which site .
anyway thanks to you i now know more about the car i would love to track down as much history as possible and this is a great start .
thanks again john

I don't have all of the details about Porsche Club members cars, they went to the new Register Secretary but my somewhat dated records show that Black & White only sold the one car in 1966. The UK bought a total of 28 cars in 1966 of which 25 were RHD and 3 were Polo Red.

Good luck with the records search and thanks to Peter and John for the extra info. John where do you find all that stuff?

Are you John Knightly ? I heard that Bernard Daly bought that off you, or maybe you re Bernard Daly !

I'm not being smart but I looked at that car 18mths ago, happened on it parked in a ditch on my way to Dingle. It was really bad, body alone would need £50,000 to restore. Of course it could be bodged for a lot less.

Hi majorporsche
yes i am john knightly .
i dont know anybody called Bernard Daly so no he didnt buy this off me .i do remember afew members of the porsche club of Ireland stopping and looking at the car telling me it was a 1968 ?

most people who start a sentence with Im not being smart useually are . i didnt come on here asking about how much its going to cost to restore my car .i simply came here looking for information about a car which i own. saying it would cost £50,000 to restore followed buy of course it could be bodged for less is basically implying that i am going to bodge it up . and it being parked on the side of the road is hardly a ditch just because there are trees behind it .
yes the car is rough i havent come on here saying that i have a barn find low milage porsche that was unused for years and is in mint condition .if you had nothing to add to this thread then why bother replying .

. to everyone else who has replied with interesting and helpfull information thank you

Sorry John did not mean to offend. I was told BD had bought this car from you and i was afraid he was using your name here in disguise, thus my smartish comment. I'm glad you still have it as it is a potentially good car, other people , not you might have tried to bodge the repairs. From seeing your set up and skills that day ( yes Im one of the PCI people that met you ) you would be well skilled to repair it. The car is valuable so don t let it go too cheap.

Dave

Hi majorporsche
thanks for the reply no real offence taken .i definatly havent sold the car (is bd someone to avoid in porsche circles )
i have had quite afew people trying to buy the car but at present its not for sale . i think when we spoke the figure i told you was what i had been told it was worth as allegadly it is FIA eligable for historic motorsport (as i have said i dont know much about porsche cars or if this is true) i was told its still eligable by 50 chassis numbers .
i would be interested in joining PCI could you send me details of membership.
. again a big thank you to all that have given me information about my car i never thought i would find out so much in such a short space of time .
i shall sort out joining porsche club GB as soon as i get back to ireland .

Hi John.

You should ask the local FIA representative as it does have a big effect on value. It is I believe technically within the chassis numbers allowed for period F racing even though it was not manufactured until Feb 1966. The cut off date for Period F is 31/12/1965 but I think chassis numbers up to the change over to Webber carburettors (chassis 305100??) can be entered. What I am not 100% sure of is eligibilty for some events which may impose a strict 31/12/1965 cut off date which is why pre 31/12/1965 manufactured cars might be worth more. It is certainly worth you seeking out the local FIA person and getting it from the horses mouth.

Regarding Black & White they were never an official Porsche Dealer but about 50% of the cars that came through A.F.N in the mid 60s were sold via small independent garages selling one or two Porsches a year in addition to their usual business. Certainly worth a phone call to them as they look like a small family owned business since the early 60s and they may well remember selling the odd Porsche.

Ian.

Hi Ian
thank you for your reply i have been trying to work out just who i need to contact in the FIA . i checked out there website looking for my nearest contact but its just confuseing me .i shall keep looking though .
i also recived an email from Black & White garage but it turns out that they were not the garage that sold the car .they were very helpfull though and gave me the address of 2 other black and white garages so i shall check them out .
