Looking for pictures of beige tartan used on 70's Porsches? Wanting to retrim my 911

hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I got my 911 SC Targa last year. the car did not come with the correct interior for the period when it was manufactured.

The interior is very nice light grey seats front and back from a 993 model And so is the carpet and the door inlays look like the correct period but are also the same colour grey leather.

my plan is to put the car back to the original inside. So when I received the Porsche certificate of authenticity, it states that the interior should have sports seats option in black leatherette with beige tartan inlays.

i am assuming that it's just the inlays that are supposed to be beige tartan?

problem is I don't know what the correct material of the tartan is made from? Or the correct design pattern?

does anybody have any pictures of the beige tartan design from this era?

great [:D] thats a a nice starting point, i will investigate this further. i noticed that there are at least two different versions of the brown/beige tartan pattern. thats a shame i will never know the exact version, which was in my car. i suppose i could just choose the one that i prefer.

Your luck to have a choice[;)]

Far better than just one you may not like[;)]

PS - Have yous looked at the option codes for your car to see if this gives a further indication of colour?[8|]

Have you got a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche? That might tell you and as a club member, it's free (as opposed to a frankly ludicrous £65!)

My Porsche certificate of authenticity says: interior material colours: black leatherette with beige tartan dress inlays.

I am assuming that it's just the inlays (door cards) that should be tartan? As it doesn't mention seats. Noticed on other forums that some peoples certificates mentions tartan centred seats.

does anyone know the type of material used on the door cards? i was thinking of having the material made up with same tartan pattern for a fraction of the price of Lakewell.

My seats had fabric seat squab centres with leatherette side and upright panels, so I think you meed to be careful in making assumptions. The door cards are all-leatherette, no fabric on them.

interesting, what does it say on the Porsche certificate under:- interior material colours: ? also could you tell me what sort of fabric this was between the leatherette? doing a Google image search on the tartan design brings back many different combinations.

i have seen cars the same as you have described and also seen cars with the door cards and the seats in fabric and also just the door cards in fabric with the seats in either leather or leatherette. so it seems there was lots of choice for the customer.

Many of the cars you are looking at may have well been re covered. Some owners would choose to stick with original colour. Others may have only had the seats done, leaving the door panels or even changing the material or colour. Any combonation of the above could apply and since these cars are getting on a bit I doubt many owners have owned the cars to know what has or has not changed. it looks very much like wool, is that the type of material used? this amounts to around £280 delivered from Germany, which is a lot cheaper than lakwell.

just spoke with David Nunn [:D] that guy was brilliant and spent over an hour on the phone, so it seems the material above is correct and he has it in stock for £107 a metre but comes in 1.4m width (it is actually wool too). it seems that 'old and slow' was right, the car is mainly black leatherette with black carpets and the inlays refer to the seat centres back and front. so at this stage i will not be covering the seats in tartan until i get the correct front seats, otherwise i may find it difficult to sell my current sport seats 80-84 911 and as david said was used all the way up to 1988 on other Porsche cars.

thanks everyone for your help.

Glad to hear David Nunn was as brilliant as ever.

I recall almost twenty years ago David sourced my 356 seat material. No one in the UK had the correct 356 perforation pattern punch machine to carry out the work. However, David had a contact in Germany who had the correct 356 perforation punch machine. The material was duly dispatched and returned in a couple of weeks.

What do they say? It's not what you know it's who you know[;)]
