Looking to buy 993 Carrera S

Hi,

I am new to the site and would appreciate some basic advice. I am in the market for a Carrera S (pref: Silver, manual), I recently test drove s and 4s models currently for sale. The s had worn disks all round and under heavy braking pulled to the right, is this to be expected with worn brakes?

Regards

Tom

Sam,

Specialist Cars of Malton. Nice guys very helpful. The 4s was in great condition and the s would be put right before any sale. Problem being I would much rather have driven the car with everything in sale condition at the level of the asking price.

Expected? No.

But you do have to remember that the 993 is sensitive to geometry, and something as simple as a pothole (they seem to be multiplying at the moment!) can knock things out a little. Do that a few more times and it's all gone off! If the geo is out you can also get other odd behaviours like camber following/tramlining.

Could also be something like worn front wishbone bushes (my C4S started exhibiting this sort of behaviour at 80k miles and a pair of front wishbones and a geo later i was a very happy bunny again).

Having said that, if the caliper plates have squeezed the pads due to alloy/steel corrosion (quite a common problem) then the pads on one side could be sticky, hence working less effectively than the other side.

EDIT: No fear from Specialist Cars - i know Mark and John and they are VERY customer focussed. If you bought the car and were unhappy with any aspect they'd always look after you.

ditto on the geometry being important though doubt that would make it pull under braking. new discs and pads needed probably. worth following up as IMHO the 993 S or 4S is one of the nicest 911s and in terms of depreceation, running costs etc they are a very good long term keeper
