Loose Gearknob

While driving along last weekend the gearknob lifted free of the gearlever on my 993 tt manual. It sits back on the gearlever but does still pop back up. Is it fairly simple to remove the centre console to get to it and fix it? Something has obviously worked itself loose.

Any help much appreciated.

hi,on most NA 993s the gear nob is just pushed on,but on the turbo( or if someone has fitted the 996 metal gear nob) its clamped on with an allen bolt,to get to it u will need to remove all the bits on the center consul, unscrew it and lift it up so that u efectivly lift it high enough to turn the gear gaiter in side out and at the very top of the now exposed metal gear leaver shaft u will see the allen bolt,if your worried about it coming undone again in the future u can always put a bit of loctite on the thread.
Hope that helps

C2's are a rubber push on, C4's (and TT) are the old 944 style. They have a D shaped clip that holds the knob onto the shaft. You dont need to undo the consul, just push the leather boot down with your fingers so it unclips and when you have fixed the D clip back pull the leather up so it clips back in place, it should take about 2 minutes to do with no tools at al. It will only have an allen bolt holding it on it it is non factory
