I need a bit of help with a loose tube i have in the engine bay please.

On the attached picture there is a tube with a star (lowest one) marked. This is attached as in the picture but is loose at the other end. Please could you tell me where it goes as i am new to 993's. A picture would be most welcome, please send to thenewmans2009@hotmail.co.uk

That's the tube that connects the heater pipe to the distributor housing. It's function is to allow air to flow into the distributor casing to prevent the build up of "ions" which can cause the rubber drive belt to break.

Early 964s had the same dual distributor arrangement, but without the tube, with the result that the connecting belt would sometimes snap, often without the owner realising, causing serious engine damage.

Not wishing to worry you, but, it should never have been disconnected, and it is very important that you re-connect it as soon as possible.

mark the engine was recently removed to replace clutch and i suppose they forgot to replug the tube. Please let me have a picture of where it needs to go or a drawing.

thank you for replying.

In your photograph, you can actually see the other end of the tube. It's meant to push-connect over a solid pipe which comes out of the distributor housing below the black plug.

You can see it just below where the '02/95' is printed on the hose to the right of the image.

My 964 actually has two of these clear tubes coming out of the heater duct - one goes to the distributor, the other connects to the rear-most bulkhead and goes through to the red 'PORSCHE' reflector - I assume it's to 'demist' the reflector? [;)]

Could do with that on 993 - my rear lights (not reflector) seem to mist up whatever the weather.

Elliot - sorry forgot (again) your picture of the gap between the rear light and the wing. Car now at my indy for a few days while he fixes a few problems with my NSR wheel.

Thanks guys i found the hole in the distributor an the tube is back were it belongs. Next i need to see if rear reflector is height adjustable. Clyde thinks that it is not but there are three long bolts in the top which make me think it might be. Please confirm or deny this for me oh learned 993 ones.
