loss of power..?

Has anyone got any idea where I can start looking to find out why my partners 87 3.2 lost power last time she drove it... Basically she was driving back from work, done say 30 miles, when all of a sudden just as she was going up the M1 slip road, the car lost all its get up and go, to the extend that it then just cut out... She said it then restarted fine and ran fine for another 10 miles or so, before it happened again.... but this time it would restart, well not until the ow truck arrived.. And today it appears fine..?

As I wasn't in the car, so this is about all the info I have.... so I can't even decide if its electrical or a fueling issue...

Since its last service the car has only covered about 300 miles... (work and back 3 times.)

Any ideas..?

Dude,
It sounds like a dirty/lose fuse or the DME relay under the pass seat.
Could even be a lose wire to the coil.
I'd bet its electrical.
Wages on?

Thanks....
Fuses and contacts look fine.. Far better condition to mine...! Swapped out the DME to see if the problem goes away... Time will tell....

When this happened to me, it turned out to be the beginning of a relay failure. The relay was one under the front bulkhead in the luggage compartment on the driver's side.

Regards, David.

Yes.. touch wood..[8|] since using MY spare she has not had any issues.. although she has only used for a few hundred miles or so... as she prefers her Golf with electronic climate control at present.. Which basically means I'll have to now buy myself a new spare along with new alternator, AFM, and Cylinder head temp sensor.[:(].. Still its only money...

Hi, certainly sounds like the DME relay, I changed mine after having the same problem only to find a similar problem manifest itself a couple of months later. This time though it turned out to be the flywheel sensors packing up!
Still its nice to have the occasional head scratcher to keep us on our toes, is'nt it?

PS. Regarding your dwindling stock of spares, I think your going to have to put your foot down with a firm hand!
Although if it were me I wouldn't be allowed.[&o]
