lost ignition key

HELP !
My one and only ignition key has been 'disposed of' by my two yr old and there's little chance of it turning up now after a week!

So what do I do to get a new key ? Do I need to take the igniton apart looking for part no's and where is the best place to get blanks from that will fit my 1969 coupe?

Boo hoo

A possible problem that could affect me as I also have just the one key...and an American ignition at that.

My plan, should it happen to me, would be to take the ignition switch out of circuit and replace with a master switch and a big red start button. Such items can be obtained from suppliers such as Demon Tweaks.

Only a suggestion, mind.

Best of luck

Its a bit of a pig to get the steering lock out if you take your time you can get the shear bolts out, one rivet at the front, you have to take the alley dash trim off to get to that, when you eventuley get the lock out there may be a number on the long lock shaft if not you will have to send it to a lockdoctor.regards Berny.

Is there any chance of contacting Porsche with all the details of the car, they may keep a record of key numbers and be able to supply with one or two.
Worth a try.

Cheers,

Hi, dont know if all Porsche locks are similar, if you have a copy of "101 Projects for your Porsche" by Wayne Dempsey, project 76 refers to rekeying a lock that may be of use to you, I was able to sort out the locks on a VW Golf in this way....good luck........regards....Gwyn.

if you have just one key for your car the your local OPC will sell you a blank for about £3 which you can get cut at your local key cutters for about £2. well worth it IMHO.

if you have all the numbers of your car then your local OPC should be able to supply a replacment key (provided the locks not been changed) but this service takes a bit of time and cost a bit(don't know how much)

wo!! Not good as you would need to get new barrels and the ignition barrel as well. Saving grace is that the car is a 69. So you stand a better chance of getting it all changed much cheaper..

There is a number on the barrel but not knowing alot on this you would have to contact the 356 key guy in the US as he really knows these locks as that's all he does.. see 356 reg USA web site and track from there.

Have a good look about the car only a tip cos when I have my 69 I found like 3 spare keys in the car!!

All sorted now - but it cost me. Porsche here in Spain looked at me blankly and couldn't help at all. No lock specialists knew anyone who could help me. In the end having been given Tony Euganeo's (610-461-0519 Pennsylvania) name by a couple of other Porsche forums I sent him my Ignition and my Glove lock so that he could cut me new keys.

I am now all set - have factory and non-factory spares - am back on the road and can recommend Tony gladly.

Cheers

P.S. Lovely toddler has also produced 'lost' keys from previously unknown hidey hole !! []

Oh my god........ and My Jo wants Kids!!!!! [&:] I am worried...

No wounder Gavin Keeps his car about 25 miles way from his house :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sorry to hear the bad and good news...

Glad you got it sorted.

Well I am still on Free Key cuts so I beat your £1 key. I only get this because when I worked for my other company.. I handed over a contract worth about £120K over 4 years to my brother in law's --- brother in law and it has kept me in good favours ever since.. and I was not keeping it in the family he really was the best locksmith company that tended for the work..
