Lost my virginity at Oulton!

....or should I say lost my Oulton virginity on Wed 27th Aug!
Traffic was good on the journey over from the other side of the "hill". It only took me an hour and a half to get there (which is good!).
Pulled onto the paddock next to a red 964 which I have seen before over at 9M. Got chatting to the owner...a very friendly guy called Tony who agreed to take me out for a few sighting laps ( in his car with him driving). 4 laps and my guts were in my mouth! God I felt sick and was glad to get out of the car ( bad passenger!) Turns out the beast has a 3.8 375bhp 9M special in it, £££ spagetti exhaust, carbon fibre panels, stripped interior and 996 turbo brakes! That thing is literally a GT3 eater! I thought it was quick!
Anyway the weather stayed dry and after a couple of sessions I got my "eye in" and managed to keep up with some pretty respectable stuff...which is not bad for me!
Quite a few Porsche's there...must have been 3 or 4 GT3's, a GT3 cup, 996 Turbo, 996 C4, nice black SC, beautiful '73 RS(R) rep (with 3.2 engine) and not forgetting the Lupo race car ( or was it a Polo? ) driven by a certain drummer, which yes, I did have to let past me[:(]. In my defence however, it was only on my 2nd session ( honest! )...but yes, he was quick!

Looking forward to the October date to catch up with everyone and to have a great days driving![:)]

Regards, Matt.

Oulton -my numero uno favourite UK track!! Here's to the first of October then!!

Forgot to mention about the noise test chaps. My car has a standard air-box (well a 993 one anyway), a cat by-pass pipe, a cup pipe and a "Will Norman Tip". At 4500 RPM, my car gave a static reading of 104 DB! Just goes to show what a good buy the "Tip" was because as you know, the limit at Oulton is 105. Without that tip I wouldn't have had a chance!
Another interesting point is that the "red beast" with the 9M 3.8 special and the £££ spagetti system, only gave a reading of 101 DB!? [8|]

Matt

I am now worried about the Oulton RS day next month. With a cat by-pass, cup pipe and K and N, I scored 112dB at Cadwell earlier this year. Granted the testing was iffy but I'm sure 105 will be exceeded.

Ian,
With that set up you are likely to be somewhere in the 105-108db range in my experience. Will Norman (he of noise reducing exhaust tip fame) will be there, and I will suggest to him that he brings along a couple of exhaust tips to sell - problem solved. Failing that, there will be enough people there that have the tips that I'm sure will lend one to you to get past the static test .......... Either way I wouldn't worry !

MESSAGE FOR YORKSHIRE CREW:

Are you all travelling over on the M62? If so at what time...does anyone want to drive over in convoy?

Can do Matt. I'm in Leeds so Hartshead services Westbound on the M62 would be good. Best to set off very early as traffic is bad during the week.

What do you think Paul...aim to leave Hartshead at 6:40 am to get there for 8:00? Is that too early?

Chris and Ian...what do you think?

Guys

Intend booking a meal the night before at the Fortune palace in Hatchmere -any takers?

Thanks for the offer Mel, I won't be "oop naaarth" unil late, so no good for me .........

See you at the track !

Jamie

Matt

6 40 sounds about right to me, 7 00 at a push. Please advise. Which fuel co supplies Hartshead ?

On the subject of noise, I will bring my 13mm spanners if you are sure I can borrow your end, so to speak. Incidentally, has anyone ever considered an acoustic blanket as a temporary noise test solution, made of a suitable material and placed over the engine?

Ian - Shell! [:)]

Melv - I can attend a post-trackday meal as long as it's early.

Matt - 0640hrs departure is OK. Never can tell if traffic is going to be horrendous or if we are going to get to Oulton early and start the search for the bacon sandwich van!

Yep, sounds good to me.

And yes, Shell it is, but I always run down the A57 to Oulton (from the M56) and there's a close Shell garage which is always a good place to top-up.
