We are really glad that everyone had a good day, we did too if a slightly long one. It was quite daunting moving venues and date after it spending such a long time in the same place but I think it really worked and the new site gave the event a closer and cosier feel to it. It was a shame that the entrance wasn't finished in time, but compared to other events that got washed away we were lucky to have such a good day. The entrance will definitely be fixed for next year, in fact the are laying the Tarmac today.
It still amazes me that we stayed dry and largely in the sunshine, other than that brief shower at 11.30, it certainly looks like we were in a halo of sunshine given the thunder claps going on around us, I guess all the dad dancing and finger crossing paid off, it had been a very nervous week.
We can't thank Lindsay Dobby and all at Strasse, John and his team at Specialist Cars enough for their support for the event, without which it wouldn't be anything like as successful and probably not doable. Lindsay puts in some serious hours bringing the trade stalls, catering, band and Strasse stand together; they were onsite from first thing until gone 5.00pm on Saturday and that is on top of all the previous site visits that we do. Carol also deserves a special mention as she put put in a lot of hours dealing with Lotherton and Leeds council, filling in paper work and some serious time with the laminator (she loves this as a stationary junky!).
On the day we had about 350 cars come through the gates and we collected just over £1500, which Strasse rounded up to £2000, for the Candlelighters charity which is an incredible amount and very generous.
We will be sending out the results sheets to everyone who entered the Regional Concours in the next couple of days.
If anyone has any decent photos that they think could go up on the gallery let me know, I will be putting this together during the day, and I have some rather special images...
