Hi all , im really loving my 996 and since moving from boxster forum over to this one im finding all information VERY helpful and informative ! however im just going through the worry mode of anything i need to think/look for in anyway at the moment ! It really is an amazing car and i hope now i have many years of fun enjoying it without too much cost !! thanks for any comments .

Glad to hear you are enjoying the 996. There isn't a great deal you can do in the way of preventative maintenance. Just make sure it is properly services at the correct intervals. I change my oil and filter every 6000 instead of 12000, but it's probably overkill with today's oils. Just enjoy it, and tackle the issues as they come along. Like all cars, they have their quirks and faults, and you can be lucky or unlucky. The only way to eliminate worry is to get an (expensive) warranty.

I have had my car since it was a year old (2006) and have had to claim every year for something or another (the last time the car was in - November, it had £4000 worth of work - all covered under the warranty).

The 996 is really a great car and I am sure you will quickly see why it is so much more than the Boxster. But now matter how much you look after it, they 'can' be problematic.

A friend of mine has one of the first 996's and he has had it since it was two years old and it has had nothing go wrong with it at all.

My advice then would be to get a warranty and enjoy the car without the headache!
